From the Actor
"Le Gouter" (The Snack) by J. Liliedahl, after William A. Bouguereau.
Filmed over a period of weeks, this video explores the Flemish method of Old Master Painting, a technique Bouguereau is known to have practiced. Also included is an illustration of how to prepare the canvas in advance of painting to create a ground that makes the final surface more painterly.
Watch as Johnnie demonstrates the drawing technique of squaring up and free-handing the drawing by using a grid method of measuring. She takes you through the bistre drawing underpainting, underpainting glazes and finally the opaque application of paint and explanation of the ebauche technique that Bouguereau practiced.
