Norwegian singer/songwriter Annie (Anne Lilia Berge Strand) makes her full-length debut with what must surely be the year's sunniest album. Not since the days of The Tom Tom Club, Bananarama, and "Lucky Star"-era Madonna, has dance-pop been this fun, this bouncy, this unabashedly optimistic (1999 single "Greatest Hit" even samples the latter's "Everybody"). So don't say you haven't been warned: Anniemal is a pretension-free zone. With its "Oh no, oh no / You've got it all wrong / You think you're chocolate / But you're chewing gum" refrain, 2004's insanely addictive single "Chewing Gum" is the jewel in this sparkling crown. The R2D2-like bloops and bleeps and Annie's sweet "ah-ah-ahs" and "la-la-las" just make it shine all the brighter. Hippie-disco extravaganza "Come Together," which tops the seven-minute mark, is another standout, while the sentimental "My Best Friend" is, arguably, the only clunker on one of 2005's most notable releases. --Kathleen C. I've been listening to an imported copy of Anniemal since January, and it's absolutely fantastic. It's smart, catchy pop that you'll find yourself listening to over and over again. Aside from the last track, "My Best Friend," the album doesn't miss a beat. Every song is a winner. My favorites include "Chewing Gum," "Always Too Late," "Heartbeat," and, at almost eight minutes in length, the stand-out "Come Together."

If you're even remotely curious about Annie, give this album a try. Who knows? You'll probably find yourself humming these charms to yourself all day long!

When this disc first started , I thought. My God....what have I bought? After 3 listens I'm hooked. It's simple, fun. infectious, and everything music needs. A break from the pretentiousness of making an arty, crafty, grounbreaking, indie record. Do yourself a favor and have fun for a minute, In the spirit of 80's MADONNA! Get hooked on Annie.

At first glance and listen, Annie is one of those artists that indie lovers may pass over. That should not be the case. I first heard Annie on KEXP, which is one of the most progressive modern music stations in the US. Annie's sound reminds me of the Tom Tom Club and Human League, Abba, Madonna, and some of the 80's girl groups. What keeps me listening besides the great voice and vocal delivery is the production. The electronic dance beat layering done by the producers is great. This CD will make some great jams whether you are listening alone, at the backyard BBQ, or in the club. Annie should have wide appeal from both the indie crowd and the mainstream pop set. That's a tight-walk that is not easy to maneuver, but Annie pulls it off.
