Best New Product in the cart and caddy category at the 2005 PGA merchandise show, the GTS EC-1 Electric Caddy is a great way to transport the golf bag for golfers who prefer to walk while they play. It takes away the stress of carrying one's golf bag and takes the
push out of manual pushcarts, enhancing one's golf experience by making a good walk even better.
Designed to be easy and convenient to use, the cart weighs only 24-1/2 pounds, including the battery and motor, which is nearly 20 pounds lighter than most motorized caddies. This caddy folds up or out in just 1 quick step (like most 3-wheel pushcarts), and can be transported in and out of car trunks easily.
The motor is housed inside the front wheel and generates an amazing amount of power for its size. The battery weighs only 4-1/2 pounds and powers the caddy to go as much as 24 holes or 8,000 yards. The front wheel features a freewheeling mechanism which allows users to push the cart even if the battery is drained. This is a great convenient feature for very short distances, such as around the green or from beside the green to the next tee box. It is actaully more convenient and spontaneous to just push the caddy a few yards than to wait for the motor to engage, and then to shut down the motor after only a few short steps. The freewheeling mechanism also eliminates any concern of getting strained on the course with other heavy, bulky motor caddies (typically 45-55 pounds).
The compact battery on the EC-1 is of a much newer technology than what is used on most motor caddies. This battery is based on similar technology used on cell phones, while most motor caddies use drycell or lead-acid batteries commonly found in cars. These car batteries typically weights 25 pounds alone and must be transported seperately from the cart. They also require a long time to charge (usually 8-10 hours). The EC-1 battery charges quickly in 2 hours and as an added convenience, can be charged in the car with a DC/AC converter.
When you consider portability, convenience, and ease of use to be important features for an electric caddy, nothing on the market comes close to the EC-1. The EC-1 is backed by a one year parts and labor warranty. For service on the motor, the front motor/wheel is designed to be taken out as one unit and replaced within 30 minutes. The replacement process can be done by the user or sent to GTS for service. For repair/replacements that are sent to GTS, the turnaround time not including shipping and transit time is usually 48 hours.
