3.0 out of 5 stars "Talkin Blues", with extra tracks?, July 12, 2008
By bloodandfire (Tucson, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
Firs of all, I will cop to the fact that I have not heard this cd yet. However, I'm pretty familiar with Marley's albums and his bio. The book, Catch a Fire: The Life of Bob Marley is a great place to start. At any rate, based on the fact that the product description purports to have been recorded around the time of Marley's Matrix show in SF, and the fact that the cd includes "You Can't Blame the Youth," I feel pretty comfortable coming to two conclusions.

First, this wasn't any "reunion" between Marley and his old band mates. Instead, this is the original Wailers lineup, before Tosh and Bunny left. Second, some of the songs on this cd have already seen release, through Talkin Blues (New Packaging).

Given the fact that those "studio" (which is a bit of a misnomer. They were recorded live in a radio station studio), tracks on Talking Blues are, well, phenomenal, this is probably an incredibly good album. But if you're not ready to dish out $30, you can get some of these track on Talking Blues, whichi is a great album in its own right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, August 12, 2005
By Ronald F. Franks Jr. "Ron Franks" (Reston, Virginia United States) - See all my reviews

When I saw this pop up on Amazon I thought "what the hell, looks interesting". Man was I surprised - this CD is absolutley fantastic! Bob is definitely on, and the fact that he's playing with his old band-mates in a studio setting makes for some really interesting versions of the classics that were released on the mainstream albums. Every song is solid, but Rasta Man Chant, Kinky Reggae, Duppy Conqueror and Put it On are some of the best versions I've ever heard. You Can't Blame the Youth contains lyrics not included in the commercially released version, and Get Up Stand Up on this CD might be my favorite out of probably 15 or so that I own.

These imports are hit or miss and some are complete crap except for the fact that they're an unearthed rarity, but this one is special.
