5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, September 15, 2005
This review is from: Gold Becomes Sacrifice (Audio CD)
ok if anyone listened to cannae's first cd you'd know what im talking about when i say this is way more intense and way sicker. i mean the first one was alright but this cd blows their debut out of the water. they had better riff structure on this cd too. man i thought they where gonna be another mediocre metal act. this cd really got me back into them.

CANNAE - Gold becomes Sacrifice
-
So here's the skinny... For those who need to classify everything with titles it is safe to say this is "Metalcore" which seems to have almost become a dirty word to many metal-heads or hardcore purists. Yet we often forget there are good bands in all genres. Cannae has achieved a very strong album in Gold Becomes Sacrifice, fusing melodic death metal, with brutal hardcore breakdowns.

Oddly this album is a very refreshing change to much of the modern Metalcore. Their fantastic musicianship is bonus... just listen to the drumming in `Acts of False Signals', the bass in `Audience of the Unspoken', or the guitar (specially the solos) on `Fear and Panic'. All the members are more than competent. The vocal work, like the music, is a good hybrid of hardcore and metal however a bit more on the hardcore side. (I Love his black metal voice on Faceless Portrait... almost like Mikeal from DT.) His range is varied enough to not sound too monotonous and most importantly, his sound is fitting to the bands overall sound.

Cannae is a refreshing band in a saturated scene... Great songs... Great musicianship and Overall a recommended for people that want a little more substance to their metalcore. Plus the guitar solos sound amazing!

Favorite Songs: Fear and Panic, Marked by Monuments, Faceless Portrait and Mechanics of Moving Backwards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cd rules, June 7, 2006

This review is from: Gold Becomes Sacrifice (Audio CD)
Hit track 4 and double bass will rule supreme. This is a great cd I would suggest checking out their other cd horror if you want a harsher sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected
Cannae has impressed me. Where "Horror" was a pretty standard metalcore record, "Gold Becomes Sacrifice" is simply-put a metal record. Read more
