Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Fite approaches music-making with little more than his four favorite chords, a love of Woody Guthrie and Public Enemy, and a stack of other people's sadly forgotten records. The emerging sound is like no other: natural, unique and teeming with fresh blood. While Fite is by no means a virtuosic instrumentalist, he knows how to build a compelling song. His primary talent lies in his knack for finding, stealing, and transforming other people's music into his own, utilizing his resonant voice to lend a disquieting emotional sincerity to the mix. "Gone Ain't Gone", a wry, anachronistic, copyright-defying, country/hip-hop collage, was made mostly from CDs rescued from dollar bins of Australian bar bands, DC garage-punks, and demos from up-and-never-coming rock bands. It's all sampled, looped and laid down as the blueprint for his intriguing avant-folk vision of musical crime and resuscitation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gone Ain't Gone is Good, September 24, 2009

i got to hear Tim Fite's music via a link from a blog and was able to download some of his music that he makes available for free on his site. (A great way to get exposure.) The album i heard was Over the Counterculture. It is a little more hip-hop based which is more up my alley, but i liked the genre blurring styles he uses. I figured i would pick up one of his other albums since i got so much enjoyment out of the album he gave away for free. Gone Ain't Gone is different from OtCc was, but i still dug it. This album is comprised of Hip-hop(sample constructed), folk, pop, blues, punk... I hate classifying things like this. It all comes down to everyones definitions of the words and they are all wildly different. What i will say is that, i think Tim Fite is original and fun. You should check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars eclectic but elegant, June 30, 2009

I first heard Tim Fite on KEXP in Seattle (best station in the country, by the way), and I was mildly interested. I listened more, and I gradually became hooked. His albums are patchjobs of different rhythms and genres, so it's difficult to get a feel for him at first. Now, I see an introspective, rueful current running throughout his work. Intermixed with his playful songwriting style, it feels urban and textured. Fair Ain't Fair is also good, even darker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It!, December 29, 2008
This is the best album I have bought in a couple of years. Varied and honest this is one album with some really catchy and quirky bits.

4.0 out of 5 stars An oddly talented one
Tim Fite's album is an entirely new sound, ranging from country twang to big city bass, to apparently intoxicated boredom. Read more
