When connected to an optional HDTV receiver, its EDTV compatibility means all video sources are converted to crisp, clear 480p, a progressive-scan format that is capable of displaying an entire frame in a single pass, with 60 full frames per second. The advantage is a reduction in flicker and a more filmlike picture quality.

A digital four-line comb filter helps eliminate dot crawl and color bleeding, enhancing fine detail, cleaning up image outlines, and removing most extraneous colors. And with LCD TVs, you never have to worry about an image burn in, so you don't have to be concerned with still images on your screen. The high 500:1 contrast ratio gives you better subtle color details and the ability to see the picture in bright light conditions. Toshiba's CT-864 remote allows for immediate access to basics like channel changing and volume as well as picture and sound adjustments and input switching. And since it glows, you can do them all in low-light conditions.
Built-in speakers (2.5 watts per channel) sit below the 4:3 aspect ratio screen, giving you full stereo sound without needing to connect to an external speaker system. News, Hall, and Theater sound modes help recreate audio environment conditions for more realistic sound reproduction. The 20DL74 also has MTS support for watching television with stereo sound, SAP for receiving a second audio track in another language, an audio leveler to prevent volume spikes during commercial breaks, and virtual surround for simulating multiple-channel soundtracks through its stereo speakers.
The 20DL74 isn't without hookups, either. In addition to a standard jack for your cable or antenna feed for use with the internal 181-channel NTSC tuner, there are two rear-panel composite-video inputs as well as a rear component jack and two S-video inputs. These are perfect for connecting a VCR, camcorder, gaming system, or DVD player, letting you quickly create a complete entertainment center. Plus, there's an A/V output. A mini stereo headphone jack is available too, in case you want to keep the sound to yourself.
At less than 4 inches deep and just 14 pounds, this flat-panel LCD TV can easily be mounted on a wall (with an optional bracket) to keep it up and out of the way. Or use the included tilt-and-swivel stand to use on a shelf or entertainment center.
