Editorial Reviews

Associated Press - Michael McCall

Country music's most exciting vocal group rushes forward by soaring to even greater heights. With their constantly shifting dynamics and the head-turning way they layer their vocals, Little Big Town is rewriting the future of country harmony.

Product Description

It's the harmonies that draw you in. The big, lush, gorgeous harmonies. You're hooked and it's then that you realize that it's not just the harmonies. Everything about Little Big Town is unique to the country music world. Comprised of Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Roads, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet, Little Big Town's configuration of two men and two women is unique. Also unique is that there is no single lead vocalist all four take on lead vocal responsibilities. Little Big Town's voices blend so effortlessly one would think they'd been singing together since childhood. While that isn't quite true, their backgrounds are strikingly similar. All four band members began singing in church and with their families and Phillip even performed in a family band. Each then blossomed in their craft during college, a career as a professional musician the clear path for each. Equity. 2005.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid return from LBT, October 5, 2005
By K. Stuckey "kateling" (Port Huron, MI USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have been a fan of LBT's pleasing harmonies for years now and I am so glad they are back on radio with "Boondocks" - an ode to rural America - and The Road to Here in stores. I especially love "Welcome to the Family", a tongue-in-cheek warning to a new brother-in-law ('Uncle Bill's the undertaker's son, he'll dig a hole for you') it also has an awesome guitar line. From the somber ("Live With Lonesome" and "Lost") to the sweet "A Little More You", their harmonies are tight. "Bones" and "Good as Gone" are both fun to sing along to, Phillip's husky voice on "Bring it On Home" makes me weak in the knees and the acoustic version "Stay" is just...divine. I love how this album flows, my sweeties LBT have topped themselves. See them live if they come to your town!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great harmonies and great songs, November 10, 2005
By James A. King "Jim" (Eugene, OR USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've been playing this CD in the car for the past week, and it has grown on me like the local Kudzu here in Georgia.

I love how LBT can glide effortlessly from a banjo-infected bluegrass-leaning song to something that sounds like the best of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young from the 70's, then turn around and sound like the best of Blue Rodeo. There's not a bad cut on this CD.

With "Boondocks" on country radio, this CD is getting the exposure it deserves. The best CD I've heard this year, and best overall since the Sugarland CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making a country music lover out of this rock lover, October 16, 2005
I was drawn in in the first five seconds of the song Boondocks. I loved the harmony, writing and music of this song. I love the bio on the band and what they have endured both personally and professionally.
A unique sound and a unique idea of the vocalist not only harmonizing but sharing the role of "lead vocals."
Not a typical country sound and very appealing to the music fan. I would recommend people give this band a fair shake. They are pretty darn good.

A quintessential LBT cd - they are like country music's answer to Manhattan Transfer with the tight harmonies and beautiful vocal blends. Definitely worth buying.
