And about time too!!!, December 14, 2005
Although this is their seventh studio album it's only the Eyes' first American release. And it's not exactly new- it came out over a year ago in Europe- it was one of 2004's BEST metal CDs (along with Boehse Onkelz' "Adios", Pagan Altar's "lords of Hypocracy" and Rammstein's "Reise Reise"). It's also the second best album they've done (their 2000 effort "Blessed Be" is their masturpiece). If you're tired of the over rated HIM and haven't been able to locate Tenebre, Moonspell or Bloody Mary you should own a 69 Eyes CD.
The Eyes' first album, "Bump N Grind" came out in 1992. They were "trash" punk then- a fussion of the New York Dolls and Motorhead.
As they progressed they got slower and darker- 1999's "Wasting the Dawn" was their first "complete" Goth CD. (For a good quick look at their early sound sniff out the Euro only best-of "Framed In Blood" covering 95 thru 02. That comp is worth it for their Marylin Manson-esque version of Blondie's "call me"!)

finally, the 69 eyes have come to america, November 1, 2005
it's a privilidge and honor for anyone to encounter the music of the blessed 69 eyes. their music is amazing, gothic, ethereal, and hard rock at the core. with their background in glam rock/sleaze metal, the helsinki vampires make nothing but true gothic music in the truest rock and roll fashion. this time, the crew comes back with hollywood rock and roll, where everything is glammed out and ready to kick ass. Devils, is the 69 eyes first american debut and their seventh (or 8th, i cannot remember) album back home. with tracks like Devils, Lost Boys, and Feel Berlin, you'll be ready to hit the clutch and switch to 6th gear. riding down the lonely road home at the break of dawn, you'll be willing to rock out to Sister of Charity and Only You Can Save Me. with a nice mixture of scary gothic elements, grandiose keyboards haunting the background, and Jyrki's Peter Steele inspired vocals, everything in this album is damn near perfect.

helsinki vampires headed for hollywood, May 18, 2005
Gothic Rock (yeah, I'm sticking it here again, deal with it). The 69 Eyes are one of the first things to hit the minds of many familiar with the Finland rock scene when thinking of gothic rock. Low and behold, The 69 Eyes return with another goth-n-roll assault on the gothic scene. Meshing their hard rock/glam rock nature with the gothic melancholia influences to create what is probably the most perfect gothic rock album to come out within this last decade, or am I pushing it? This album combines elements of the hard rocks sounds from "Blessed Be" and the extreme melancholia of "Paris Kills." What gets churned out is an excellent blend of dark, melody rich, rock-n-roll music. "Lost Boys" is such a song of the rock stars, blending Hollywood with Helsinki. Is this double Helix a coincidence, is the fact that H is repetitive fate? Who knows, but "Lost Boys" tells the tale of being a teenage party vampire. Typical of the film by the same name. The first single, "Devils" is very Jyrki style, simple, simlpistic, simple again...not to say it's bad. We focus on the music and his vocals more than anything. "Sister of Charity" is a personal favorite, very reminiscent of a church scene. Perhaps something coming out of an Anne Rice novel? The sound of the song itself is nothing less of gorgeous, remember beauty reigns supreme in art. "Christina Death" is very typical stereo goth girl image. The visions in that song, something Dracula? Something romantic. This album overall is the completion of where The 69 Eyes have been and gone. They emerged as a crazy glam rock band and have now taken the gothic rock scene by storm. This album is purely amazing, with the perfect balance of melodies and rock sound. If this is a sign of things to come, I am already salivating for another album. With a bar such as this set, what else is there for the Helsinki Vampires to do?
