1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this MP# Player!, October 30, 2005
By shdl (Oregon) - See all my reviews
I purchased the 1 Gig version of this AVB Player, based on its specifications and exceptionally low price. The first thing I found out is that, though it can store a ton of songs, it can only see 99 songs in its play list. I contacted AVB-USA technical support (by e-mail) and was told the solution is to break the songs down to folders, with 99 songs in each folder. I did that, and then found out that the shuffle mode will not switch between folders--it just keeps playing the same 99 songs from one folder.

But my real objection to this AVB player, is that after only 2 months the player died completely. It will not even turn on. I am not going to try and have the player fixed or replaced, even if AVB is willing to do so. It is not worth the shipping costs fix something that is marginally functional, anyway.

I recommend that you do not buy this player (unless it as a gift for someone you do not like)!

1.0 out of 5 stars It's a piece of cheap PRC junk, January 8, 2006
I bought a similar model of this MP3 player while I was living in
Korea. It's a low-end "made in China" (in the old and bad sense) clunker that's overpriced at half of what Amazon is asking.

Mine may have had a different name on it, had Korean/Chinese/English language options instead of just English, and only 256MB instead of 512, but it's the same piece of crap.

Mine lasted for 8 months, but that's likely due to how I care for my electronics, not the quality of manufacture.

Buy something else. Heck, buy ANYTHING else. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flakey piece of junk, February 10, 2006
By Mr. Steve B. Hiner (Phoenix, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I picked up the 1GB version of this player because it had a great price. I should have known that there was a reason it was so cheap.

The rocker on the bottom is really flimsey and feels very cheap. When using it to fast forward an audio file it will often stop fast forwarding and skip to the next track. I typically listen to podcasts on the player, many of them are 30 to 60 minutes long so it's important to be able to fast forward reliably for those times that...

It reboots when it's powered on and makes contact with nearly anything metal. If I'm listening to something and the case bumps something metal (sometimes plastic will do it too) the player reboots. Typically this happens when I'm in a grocery store and the player bumps the cart. I thought I'd solve the problem by droping the player into my shirt (it comes with a necklace-headphone-dangely-thingy). Unfortunately it will reboot if it makes contact through my shirt too. I have to assume this has something to do with static discharge.

Twice now it has caused my computer to crash. I will plug in the USB cable and the instant it makes contact with the MP3 player my laptop immediately turns off. Makes me nervous to plug it in to add content.

Also, it only supports a single level of directories. That means if you have your music arranged in album folders under your artist folders you will have to move all your songs into the artist folder or copy each individual album over to the player. By default Windows Media Player copies it over as Artist\Album so the player can't read any of the songs. Combine that with the 99 files per directory limitation and it's a fatal flaw.

Initially I loved it but about six months later I started having problems. It started rebooting itself whenever I moved it. Read more
