Be aware that if you buy a multipack it needs to be installed on all computers the same time in order to get a full year service. I have 3 computers, all containing a Norton program. Since they were purchased at different times, the dates of subscription were different. Imagine my surprise when after the second computer program was expired, and 2 months after I had installed this program on the first computer, I was given an expiration date of 10 months. the 3rd computer 81 days short of a year. There was nothing on the packaging to indicate that all 3 computer programs would expire on the date of installing on the first computer.
second problem, the 3rd computer crashed on the 2nd day after install. when using the support on the Norton website I was told I could not obtain support for a program the was bought on an on-line auction house due to fraud and replication. I had told them that I bought this program on Amazon.com. several letters followed, and I fixed the problem without their help.

I have installed 2006 NIS on two XP machines and on a W2000. In fact, I've been with Symantec since the beginning of NIS. In the bad old days, before an integrated product, there were lots of problems with installs and failures. nis 2004 and 2005 seem to have smoothed them out. I've been running 2006 for a month now. no real problems, though I don't use all the features.

It has protected my web-wandering children from lots of stuff. the only time norton let me down was mid 2005 when a virus propagated through AIM instant messaging as an attachment. I spent a week fixing the machines. The virus developed so fast, norton hadn't developed a fix - they had one in 1 day later, but it was too late.

Since then, I've always had auto protect on. Friday nights, full virus scan is scheduled and runs.

Was running fine on my Pentium II, 550Mhz machine, just a bit slow to start. now that I've upgraded computer, all is well in Gotham City.

The installation was aware of prior installs and uninstalled them automatically. no more having to uninstall myself.

You may run into problems if you are converting from one antivirus vendor to another. in this case, uninstall the old first, disconnect your internet cable, then install NIS.

Norton user since 1991, back when it was a toolworks vendor. Doesn't have it all, but most don't.

Only downside to this is they really jacked up their prices for 2006. I can't afford to take chances, I buy the new code each year, not just the updates.

Liveupdate has stopped working and despite numerous e-mails from customer service over the past month (many of which totally ignore the information I have provided and tell me to try solutions that I have already unsucessfully tried), it still does not work. Customer service is imcompetent and slow. Avoid this product. A virus would be less hassle than dealing with this company.
