4.0 out of 5 stars A remix album worth buying, November 22, 2005
By J. Galeoto (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was hesitant to buy this album. Remix records usually disappoint me. I rarely hear remixes that are truly inventive. Here, the songs are completely restructured in a way that they almost become brand new songs. Amazing beats and effects compliment the bass and drums perfectly, they don't overpower the songs. I've never heard remixes so effective. It's almost as enjoyable to listen to this as the original album. This album will definitely appeal to both remix enthusiasts and also to people like me who usually bypass this sort of release. In addition to 11 remixes, it includes 2 UK b-sides. I highly recommend it and feel that it's essential to all DFA collections.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, September 8, 2007
The B-sides aren't that great, I can understand why they were never released, but I really did enjoy the album. The Remixes are really well put together, a few are pretty crappy, but none just say the song is remixed when the DJ just sped up the track and added a louder beat. These DJs all had a creative outlook on each song they remixed and made completely different songs out of them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but needs more variety., February 13, 2006
By Cale E. Reneau "audiooverflow.com" (Conroe, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a pretty solid remix album. I'm not one for remixes normally, but this album really opens up a different aspect of DFA1979's talent. On "I'm a Woman, You're a Machine" DFA1979 sounds mostly like a distorted mess of rock music, which, to an extent, is what it is. On this album, however, you can hear the lead singer's voice a lot better and it really give you a whole new admiration for the group's talent (the Alan Braxe & Fred Falke Remix of "Black History Month" is a prime example of this).

However, as a whole, the album just gets too repetitive since most of the tracks are just remixes of the same two tracks. They are really good tracks, and really good remixes, but the album would work more listening to one song at a time then listening through the whole thing. If you're a huge DFA1979 fan then I can't imagine you being too disappointed with it in small doses. I'm not. The B-Sides should've stayed that way. They're "alright" at best. But check it out, see what you think.
