4.0 out of 5 stars NICE MIX FROM BIZ, December 13, 2005
By fmwaalex "fmwaalex" (Austin, TX USA) - See all my reviews

CANIBUS
MIC CLUB MASTER-VOLUME 1 [MISTAPE]

There are no listings for who produced the original tracks, so if u know who did what good for u, hook it up with the info.

1.INTRO-wonderful flutes and violins control this excellent intro that sets the tone for what should be an excellent album. This is an official mixtape released nationally like the Kay Slay Street Sweeper albums. Here on the intro we hear Biz dropping some knowledge over this very cinematic intro, just setting the album up.5/5

2.SHOGUN- in true mixtape fashion we have Biz & SHAQ DIESEL {Shaquille O' Neal} spitting over Big, and Puffs victory instrumental. In the beginning we have Shaq getting Biz all hyped up and he does just that as Biz tears the track apart. Shaq himself rips it up a little showing why he started rapping in the first place, in fact he sounds like he belongs on a track with Biz. I really can't find anything wrong with this track.4.5/5

3.VITRUVIAN CANMAN-the first thing u hear on this track is a weird happy like sounding beat that kinda reminds me off a circus or something. I don't know who made the beat but it is pretty original, the only thing is that it isn't a great beat. But that is all well and good as long as the Canman is spittin. He just straight kills it on this track and that saves it from a real low rating.3.8/5

4.KILL THE CONJECTURE-over a nice laid back beat Biz takes a short minute to spit something real quick for us. Lyrically you all know that Biz holds it down, in fact this album can be described by the line "for now I `am just a huzla trying to give you my best work". The huzla part fits this album perfectly, and the best work part may be off, but it is a mixtape and not a studio album. Also I like the beat it reminds me of some old school stuff.3.8/5

5.SAY IT AIN'T SO-I love the intro violins before the beat drops, who ever produced this track was on some hard stuff when this was recorded. For some reason I think this track would have been right at home on the "2000 B.C" album. The beat and lyrical delivery on this track is reminiscent of that album. Biz kills this track with a killer delivery, and he even says "Kay Slay can I buss em" which is a throw back to his duet with Rakim from the previously mentioned album.4/5

6.U DON'T CEE-sticking to the true mixtape form Biz spits over another famous overly used beat, of course Biz kills it. I love the fact that he shouts out to Shyne on this track. this track like the "SHOGUN" track Biz sounds very comfortable on this beat, and this like that track is some what superior to the other tracks so far.4.5/5

7.COLLECTING TAXES-sticking to the formula again with this one Biz spits over another artists beat. This time he is spitting over Fabolous's "Breathe" instrumental, but to fit his style he has quickened the beat to a faster pace. But unlike the previous track this one isn't as impressive, or maybe it's because I think the beat is played out. Either way this is a pretty good track.3.5/5

8.GET OFF YA KNEEZ-excellent song, this song would have been right at home on the "RIP THA JACKA" album. The great samples on here make this track come to life, I wouldn't be surprised if Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind produced this track. This might be the best track on the album, and since he says Rip Tha Jacka is back this might have been made for that album. If it was it really should have been on there, it would have been great to have 12 tracks instead of 11. And as far as lyrics go you all know Biz tears the track to shreds. If there would have been a video to promote this official mixtape this would have been perfect. 5/5

9.BAGGIN' UP DA POUNDZ-following the last track the hits keep coming, this could be another good choice for a single. The track has an easy on the ears beat with a good melody that might do well with the mainstream. Biz holds it down as usual with a great verse, and shares the hook with YOUNG ZEE. Speaking of which Zee drops a nice verse to end things nicely. This track is pretty good and would make a nice follow up single to "GET OFF YA KNEEZ".4.5/5

10.YENG MENG-and again the hits keep coming, this track like the previous 2 could be a nice single. The bouncy beat is perfect for the mainstream audience, and could help move units. This unlike the other two is a track were he just spits with a hook in the very beginning and end. Also I love the part were he mentions how marketing contributes to most of a person's success because people see it enough and start to trust the product.4.8/5

11.HRSMN TALK-the 4 horsemen are in the house and killing the mic, this is one of the tracks I was waiting to hear. The beat is very unique to say the least and is pretty addictive, it takes a while to get used to it. But once you do you can't help but nod your head, I love the beat now it really fits the styles of the artists. The hook is pretty simple but the verses more than make up for it. First up we have KILLAH PRIEST dropping a nice verse that will get you hyped about this song. Next we have the great KURUPT dropping a verse that we all know he is capable of, it very reminiscent of his Deathrow days. Third up is RAS KASS dropping a hot verse that shows why he should be considered one of the greatest lyrists of all time. Finally we have Canibus killing the track dropping the best verse off of the song. Over all this is a great track showing why a new album with new material from these four is long over due.4.8/5

12.DA PAYCUT-coming back to the true form of the mixtape Biz spits over a used beat that most should recognize. This is basically Biz spitting some gems over this laid back track non stop, no hook on this one. We even have a lil shout to LL Cool J on this one with Biz saying he is a chip off the old block like uncle L.4/5

13.GIVE IT MORE-this is definitely a great track for any album, every thing about this song is tight. The beat from some guy named RIGGS {I guess} is off the hook, the bag pipe influenced beat is perfect for Biz to ride to. The bass and effects and instruments in this track make it sound tight and could be a nice little single. For some reason I feel this should have been on "HIP HOP FOR SALE" making 12 tracks instead of 11. I also think this could do pretty good in the clubs, and of course Biz kills it.5/5

14.THE MIC DISEASE-once again we return to Biz rapping over others beats, this time it is Fat Joe's "Lean Back". This unlike the breathe track sounds perfect for Biz, he kills it, and his flow is off the chain on this one. Over all this is a pretty good track.4/5

15.ALLIED METAFORCES-I really don't know why this track is on here, it already appeared on the "MIC CLUB-THE CURICULUM" album. But I guess I should rate with out bias even though it was already released on a studio album. Of course with a track that has both Biz and KOOL G RAP you already know that lyrically this track is off the hook. Luckily the beat supplied here is just as tight, leaving an excellent track.5/5

16.MIC CLUB MASCOT-straight off the bat we are hit with a tight beat that will have every one nodding their head. This song of course is straight heat lyric wise with Biz just straight spittin the entire track, no hook or pauses just straight heat. This would have been tight if it would have been lengthened to entire song.4.5/5

17.GONE IN 60 SECONDS-another song that is just Biz spittin the entire track, just killing it. And like the previous track the beat is just as tight, nice head knodder on this one again. I guess since the title is what it is then this is an entire song so it gets a good rating.4/5

18.BOX CUTTA' BLADE RUNNA-like the cut with Kool G Rap this track already appeared on a Canibus album. This one was on the infamous "C TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORIES" album, it also happens to be one of the better tracks from that album. As all fans of Biz know this song is straight heat with an excellent beat and vicious rhymes, in fact Slim Shady himself jack'd a part from this song as most already know.4.5/5

19.UNDERSTAND ME -INTERLUDE-this track is basically samples from a movie or something that has a guy trying to get some one to understand him [some one tell me what the samples are from]. I love the India influenced sounds of this track it kinda sounds like something you would hear on "HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS or HERO" so it might be from that area, nice interlude.

20.THA DUNGEON-this track was obviously recorded for the "2000 B.C." album, since Biz says it in the beginning. It is also obvious why this track was not on the final cut of the album. That's not saying that this song isn't worth your time, because it is pretty good it's just not a classic. The beat is highly original and pretty tight if you can get used to it, but at first listen you might not get into it. The beat has a underground type of feel to it, but it gets repetitive. And lyrically you know that this track is tight, Biz and Kurupt take turns tearing the beat up. But even I must admit that in Kurupt's first verse there are times when his flow seems to fall off, but he redeems himself at the end of that verse. And his final verse is straight heat, especially after the first half of it he straight KILLS IT like we all know he can. But fans of either of these guys will recognize parts of their verses, since they never released this song they used some of their verses on other tracks.4.5/5

21.RIP IZ ALIVE-judging from the dark mood of the beat and the title of the track it seems like this song would have made since on the "RIP THA JACKA" album, in fact it might have been made for that album. The beat is pretty hot and gets you into what the track is all about, the violins are sick. And the intro really gets you feeling this sick track, and of course Biz or should I say Rip kills this track. and since he mentions True Hollywood Stories this might have been recorded for that album.5/5

22.BIS VS. RIP {ORIGINAL VERSION}-this version is what was really recorded and was supposed to be released, and to be honest I' am glad the other was released. The reason I say that is because this version is to bouncy, the beat is tight but it's not quite what the other is. But of course the lyrical concept is genius, and Biz kills it with this song.4.5/5

23.INTERLUDE-it says interlude but I like to think of it as the outro for the album, it makes more sense that way with how it ends. Plus I think the final few tracks are bonus tracks.

24.BLAKMILC WANT FREEDOM- can some one tell me why Biz is on some rock stuff with this one. I `am guessing that BLAKMILC is a rock band or something, but I could be wrong. The rock beat isn't that great at all and at first his flow doesn't match the beat tempo wise. Over all the worst track on the album, but since Biz is spittin some tight stuff it gets.3.5

25.LIVE DUBLIN FREESTYLE-by now most Canibus fans have heard this freestyle, especially since this already appeared on the "C TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORIES" album. And of course Biz kills it with this free, and it's pure classic.5/5

26.ACCAPELLA-this track is just a accapella taking from an earlier track on the album. That track of course is "U DON'T CEE", so for all you producers out there here is a nice lil accapella from Biz for ya, I guess I'll give it.5/5

Over all, all Canibus fans out there should pick this up and bump it. This is a nice little mix that was released officially so even if you have these songs downloaded or on bootlegs or some thing show some love and get a copy. Support one of the greatest rappers out there, and throw down a few dollars so he can continue to make these for our listening pleasure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Biss Is a Monster!!, July 10, 2008
If your familiar with Canibus's work, then you should know what to expect on this CD. The only key difference is that half the beats on here are OTHER people's stuff, so the chances of him having shoddy production are lessened significantly. By the way, for those who dont know, this is a mixtape, not an official album (which is why I find it funny that Amazon is treating it like one), and on the mixtapes you can do stuff like jack other people's beats. Its done all the time.

Anyway, the CD is tighter then fish pussy. Of course there is the hardcore, unmatched raw lyricism of that man Canibus on just about every song. Some of these instrumentals he could definitely have done without, like "Box Cutta 'Bladerunna'", which was kind of interesting, but it came off sounding very Eminem-ish, lyrics and all. But despite some lack luster tracks, Bis shines on tracks like "Day Paycut", "Give It More", "Say it Aint So" and thats just a few. There are 25 tracks for your listening pleasure, and I can garuntee any Bis fan will enjoy more then half of them, making this worth the buy in my opinion. MicClub Mixtape Master Vol. 1 gets a 4.5/5 from me, just due to some slightly lame tracks, but the rest makes it forgivable.

Outstanding Tracks:

Shogun
Vitruvian Man
Say It Aint So
Da Pay Cut
U Dont Cee
Give It More
Gone In 60 Seconds
