I grew up with and was a fan of the original television series so I gave this movie a try, and was incredibly disappointed. If it ain't broke don't fix it! "The Dukes of Hazzard Movie" is not good enough to be called bad. Every thing about this movie is horendous, the character portrayal, the storyline, the affects. My advice to anyone thinking about getting this movie is not to waste your time or money. Trust me is isn't worth it.

Let me be clear: I'm giving this 2.5 stars instead of 3.

This is the story of Bo and Luke Duke, and yet another one of their misadventures running into Boss Hogg. You really need to see the original TV series to get this movie, but that's ok. We loved this show when I was a kid in the '80s, but I have to say that this movie barely captures any of what made the TV show great. The Duke boys are always running afoul of the law, but in a very innocent and justified way. They are moonshiners, and the only law enforcement out there to stop them is the far more corrupt Boss Hogg, and his band of crooked officers. This is another episode of JD Hogg trying to catch them, but Hogg is pulling yet another scam in which he seizes all of the farmland in a certain area of Hazzard County, including the Duke boys' farm. Why is he seizing all of this land? That's the mystery.

That is such a cool, tight plot that sounds so great, and plots like this were so great when this was a TV show, but like I said above, this movie fumbles most of the things that were handed to it by the TV show. The whole premise of the TV show was so cool as well: the Dukes were a couple of bad boy "Robin Hood" types that were on a rebellious, righteous crusade that allowed them to have blistering car chases and to fire off exploding arrows. They were rebellious, yet doing the right thing, and every episode plot was really tight and had a vivid and succinct feel to it. It had a storytelling that has been lost by 2015. Every TV show just feels sensationalist and CGI-ish by 2015, with bland characters and thin plot lines.

However, this movie adaptation largely falls flat. It wasn't a miserable failure, it's just that it under impressed.

Not surprisingly, "The Dukes of Hazzard" bears little resemblance to the classic TV series on which it's based. Sean William Scott and Johnny Knoxville play cousins Bo and Luke Duke, who lose their brains from the TV show and become crazy young-'uns with raging hormones. The plot of this film involves Bo and Luke out to stop Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds) from stripmining Hazzard. Also, Bo wants to win the Hazzard Racing Tournament for the 4th year, but faces tough competition from Billy Prickett (James Roday).

Let me start off by saying that fans of the TV show will no doubt be disappointed. The characters in this film bear little resemblance to those of the series. In the last few years, many TV shows have been remade as movies (namely "Charlie's Angels" and "Starsky & Hutch"), and while these remakes may have been entertaining, there's little resemblance to the series that they are based on. The key to enjoying these films is to seperate them from the TV series. I did that for "Dukes of Hazzard", and I had a great time.

The film has a great cast. Scott is very funny as Bo Duke. Michael Weston makes a very likable Enos. Burt Reynolds is enjoyable as Boss Hogg. Jessica Simpson is actually pretty good as Daisy Duke. Then we have the great Willie Nelson as Uncle Jessie, who is very funny in many of his scenes. Lynda Carter has a small part as a friend of the Duke family.

The script isn't top-notch, but who'd expect it to be? For that matter, who'd WANT it to be? This film can be summed up in three words: simple, silly fun. The script is fun. The cast is funny. There's a great soundtrack, including the classic "Good Ol' Boys" theme. And there's the General Lee.

If you're looking for a bright film, this would probably not be a wise choice. But if you're looking for a simple, fun film, this might be a good choice.

The film makers took a different more raw angled approach to the film adaptation from the original material of the television show. Characters arcs are a bit different from the old 70's & 80's era show in their portrayal, Boss Hog & Roscoe struck me as being more villainous then the clowns on the show, Willy Nelson had basically played himself, big boobs "Wonder Woman" star from the 70's Linda Carter plays the wife (no lovable Aunt Lu Lu character to rescue here I guess), Burt Renalds as the notorious Boss Hog, Jessica Simpson was basically a blond bombshell hottie (Herself), & Bo & Luke characters seemed to be more wild and mischievous then their tv counterparts (who were portrayed as sweet charming nice guys who acted as Robin Hood figures). This duo from the movie struck me more as car racing womanizers enacting the "Robin Hood" role for the sake of wild infamy, as they engaged in pulling stunts & pranks along the way purposely. These two movie guys are real "deep south" Rebels on a mission of "Hell raising" anarchy proportions, instead of the sweet "good old boys" from the show trying to right wrongs while maintain their charm and innocence.

"Making their waaaaay, the only way they know how! But that's just a little bit more then what the law would allow..."

I did find good things about both versions of this franchise I can say I liked; besides the great car stunts with chases the old show had a family & more "Red Neck- South Confederate State" themed Disney light hearted like characters that both kids, and some adults could enjoy (6 & up), where as the movie had a harder more edgy approach that teenagers and adults would find appealing but NOT for younger kids.
