Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Designed for Food Network star Rachael Ray and branded with her name, this 7-inch Gusto Grip East/West knife is a cross between a cook's knife and a vegetable chopper. The knife features an ultra-thin blade with an exceptionally sharp cutting edge that slices through fruits, vegetables, and meats with more simplicity than the thicker cook's knife. Plus, its scalloped edge minimizes food's ability to stick to the edge, which makes for more efficient slicing. Crafted from a single, seamless piece of the finest CrMoV German stainless-steel alloys, the knife is then hardened and tempered for maximum edge retention, ease of sharpening, and long-lasting durability. The knife also offers a forged solid bolster and heavy tang for enhanced strength. The knife, which should be washed by hand for best results, measures approximately 11 by 2 inches and carries a limited lifetime warranty.

Product Description
7" East/West Rachael Ray 'Gusto Grip' knife is our most popular shaped blade because it is the most effective knife available for general slicing and chopping of meats, vegetables and fruits. The blade is a chopper and cooks knife combined: the best of the East and the West! Light, sharp, and perfectly balanced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy chopper! Review applies to both 5" & 7", February 1, 2007
I completely agree with Sobai's January 9th review. I looked at the Furi knives when shopping locally two months ago, but my husband encouraged me to purchase a set of Wusthof classic knives instead. While I love the Wusthofs, I reach for my Furis just as often.

I received the Furi 5" knife as a Christmas gift and was so pleased with the product that I ordered the 7" a week later. Both knives were incredibly sharp right out of the package. I give them a couple of swipes down a steel before each use and they're holding an edge beautifully.

Like Sobai, I also like the orange silicone grip (did someone actually call it plastic?). I have small hands and find the grip to be ergonomic, safe and comfortable. The knife remains secure in my hand even when cutting chicken! The orange color stands out in my block, making it easy to find the desired knife quickly. Besides, nothing like a little "Harley Davidson" orange to brighten up the kitchen ;-)

Knives are a matter of personal preference. I'm pretty picky and have found the Furis to be a quality product. My recommendation: go to a local knife shop and hold a lot of different knives in your hand. Pay attention to how each feels and imagine how your hand would feel after cutting a mountain of veggies. The "best" knife in the world for one person may not be the best choice for another.

Happy chopping!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Kitchen Knife, December 1, 2005
By Country Boy (United States) - See all my reviews
This Santoku knife is made a little heavier than the Furi RR Coppertail model. I believe this is due to a thicker tang on the blade. The silicone grip is ideal to help prevent one's hand slipping on the handle & is very comfortable.
In my opinion, Wusthof may lose alot of customers after they try using this knife. If one is interested, the Foodtv.com web site has two different sets of the RR Gusto Grip knives for sale.
I seldom use my Wusthof Santoku anymore. The curved tip saves alot of needless wrist movement when chopping or mincing.
The 1st knife I ordered was defective; a cracked handle near the metal cap on the rear of the handle plus metal pitts on top of the tang. In my opinion, the Wusthof Santoku has a superior German steel that stays razor sharp alot longer!

5.0 out of 5 stars a nice knife , great price, May 2, 2007
By A. Kemp (Houston, Tx) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I own a set of Henckels knives but wanted a santuko knife. I went looking and really liked how this knife felt in my hand. It was a bit cheaper than the henckels that matched my set, so I decided to give it a try. It feels good, cuts well, very sharp. My only comment is that it came with 3 stickers ON THE BLADE!!! Advertising stickers. I had to soak the knife overnight to get them off and can still see the marks from the adhesive on the blade. Obviously, that doesn't affect the performance of the knife, but I can't see Henckels or Wustoff ever putting stickers on the blade...
