Use the Sabrent SBT-STDB IDE Ultra ATA-100/133 to Serial ATA Port Mini Converter Adapter to convert Serial ATA (SATA) devices to work with an IDE controller.

Serial ATA supports transfer rates of up to 1.5 Gbps and the adapter is compatible with SATA devices such as hard disks and DVD, DVD-RAM, CD-ROM, and CD-RW hard drives. Hard drives larger than 137 GB are supported.

On one end of the adapter is a 22-pin SATA port and the other end has a 40-pin IDE connector. Simply connect them and the adapter will convert commands from one to the other.

Destroy my 500GB hard disk. Cannot recognize a few 250GB hard disks. For the hard disk that it can recognize, the transfer rate is very slow. The Amazon picture is different from what I received. The one I received is made in China. I bought from [...] the same Sabrent SBT-STDB in 2006 which has the same picture as on Amazon and it is made in Taiwan. It works like a charm with all my 250GB, 500GB and 1TB SATA hard disk. I order it despite others' negative comments because I see the same picture as the one I have and have good experience with it. But I received a different product which is made in China and which not only does not work but destroyed my hard disk with all its data. Highly recommend not buying this product.

WELL NO LUCK FOR ME WITH THIS PRODUCT. I ASSEMBLE MY OWN COMPUTERS, SET THIS DEVICE CORRECTLY, THE COMPUTER RECOGNIZES THE DRIVE AND INSTALLS THE OS BUT THEN THE MBR IS CORRUPTED. MY GUESS IS THIS DEVICE MAY WORK BETTER FOR SECONDARY DRIVES THAT DO NOT CONTAIN THE OPERATING SYSTEM.

I appreciate the other buyers comments. I simply wanted to add a drive to my outdated computer which has IDE (not SATA) drives. I mistakenly bought a SATA drive. Yes, there is no documentation in the box or online (that I could find).


This device did finally work for me. Here is how I did it:
1) Set the jumper on the board. This is the little connector that attaches to 2 of four little pins sitting by themselves on the board. The jumper was haning off one of these pins. Turn the board over, and it tells you which pins position to use. I was adding a second drive in "slave" position.
2) Plug the board into your SATA drive
3) Plug the (separate) power cord into the card and into a free power connector inside your PC.

Boot up windows and it will see the drive.

The key is to get the jumpers right on the board. I suspect that most users will run in slave mode, so you don't even have to buy another IDE cable, just attach the card to the fat IDE cable running off your primary drive.

I subtract 2 stars for terrible documentation, and add one back for low price.
