Amazon.com Product Description

The Weller WES51 Analog Soldering Station, with included soldering pencil, stand, and sponge, is the perfect choice for a variety of soldering applications, including industrial manufacturing, rework, repairs, and more. The comfortable foam-grip pencil and variable temperature controls give you complete command of your work for precise results. Plus, with a non-burnable silicone rubber cord, ESD safety, and automatic shut-off technology, the WES51 is safe enough to use in a continuous production environment.

The WES51's heater and sensor combination offers quick heat-up times and temperature recovery for highly efficient soldering.View larger.
The Weller WES51 Analog Soldering Station features:
  • An included power unit, soldering pencil, stand, and sponge
  • A durable design ideal for industrial manufacturing applications
  • Temperature lock-out that prevents excessive temperatures
  • An automatic sleep-mode that turns off soldering station after 99 minutes of inactivity
  • Adjustable temperature controls; quick heat-up and recovery times

Electronic Temperature Control for Precise Performance
No matter what your soldering job is, the WES51's electronic control system lets you set the temperature you need to get the job done right. The soldering temperature is adjustable from 350 to 850 degrees Fahrenheit and is accurately measured to within nine degrees. And the WES51's innovative built-in heater and sensor combination offers quick heat-up times and temperature recovery for better heat control over the course of your job.

The WES51's wireless temperature lockout prevents you from raising the temperature beyond what is recommended for a specific workpiece, board, or component. This eliminates the possibility of damaging components by accidentally setting the temperature too high for the job.

Comfortable, Easy-to-Use Soldering Pencil
The kit's included PES51 Soldering Pencil features a durable Nichrome-wound stainless steel heating element for long life and quick response time. Stainless steel will not corrode at high temperatures, meaning you can use this durable pencil for a long time to come. An added bonus, the PES51 Soldering Pencil is compatible with Weller ET series tips.

The PES51 also features a non-burning silicone rubber cord, a lightweight handle made from high-impact ESD (electro-static discharge) plastic, and a foam sleeve that allows for continuous use without fatigue or heat discomfort.

Wireless temperature lockout enhances your work's precision.
Innovative Features for Long-Term, Safe Use
The WES51 Soldering Station meets Weller's high standards for quality and safety. The station will automatically shut off power to the PES51 Soldering Pencil after 99 minutes of inactivity, which helps to conserve electricity and extends the tip life. Additionally, the easy-to-understand LED (light-emitting diode) lets you know what mode the WES51 is in, so you can easily see if the temperature is locked or unlocked and whether or not the unit is turned on.

The Weller WES51 Soldering station is UL/CUL listed, which means that it meets or exceeds independent safety standards. Furthermore, the PES51 Soldering Pencil is designed to be used in electrostatic-free workstations, and, for added safety, it is completely free of stored static charges. The WES51 Soldering Station is backed by a one-year warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great unit without frills or expense., July 13, 2006

I don't know what WES51 the other reviewer used, but the current WES51 does not have a digital readout. It's an analog unit with rheostat. If you don't need bells and whistles this is the iron for you. Readily available tips and so forth and rugged design. We use dozens of these with no problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great analog soldering iron. , March 2, 2008
A few years back I bought a digital soldering station from Rat Shack. It said it had replacable tips. You can replace them with as many tips as you want so long as you replace it with the only tip that fits that soldering iron which is huge. So I was working on a little tedious project and decided it was time to buy a new soldering iron that actually had a large selection of tips. After much deliberation I bought this one.

The soldering wand is very ergonomic, light and easy to use. It has a soft narrow grip and a short tip making it easy to control when you are in tight spaces. It heats up in under a minute. The dial goes in 10 degree increments from 350 to 850 degrees Fahrenheit. The unit is very well built and has a sturdy stand with a funnel on the end to help guide the tip in so you aren't banging it against the coil when putting it in the stand.

All in all I think it is a great soldering iron. I don't know what the reviewer who gave it one star was talking about because this one definitely doesn't have an LCD. Perhaps they actually have the WESD51. As far as the lateral pressure goes, I can't think of any soldering project that requires pressure. It's about heat transfer not about forcing the object off the board.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Soldering Station, February 20, 2007
By Greer Streetman "Slickpicker" (Lexington, KY United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have owned Weller products since the 60's w/am old handheld I purchased at Lafayette Electronics in Baton Rouge, LA. This is an upgrade from the orange station Weller makes, I got at Sears, that eventually died. This particular station really does a quick job of heating and the variable switch make it easy to change when different levels of heat are required. I am really pleased with it. My only complaint is that the cord on the wand could be about a foot longer, but that's OK. I just move it closer to my work.
