Biography

There used to be a joke that UB40 stood for the "Unemployed Birmingham 40", because there were so many band members in their videos, and none of them looked exactly sharp-suited. In fact the pop-reggae band did name themselves after an unemployment benefit form, though there was never 40 members - only eight, plus guests. They formed in 1979 and made a breakthrough when their debut single,… Read more in Amazon's UB 40 Store

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

At some indeterminate point in their now 25 year long history and with serenely inconspicuous efficiency, Birmingham's UB40 rose to a level of peerlessness as the first-family of British reggae. While they've absolutely nothing left to prove--save to those bored by their longevity--Who You Fighting For finds UB40 shouting more loudly than usual; the likelihood being - even at this autumnal stage of the band's career--that less partisan ears may be pricked by such refreshing spices as the Bhangra chorus of "Reasons" or even by more traditional summer reggae sweeteners as "Gotta Tell Someone" or the dark, philanderer-reformed ruminations of "One Woman Man". But the real reason why UB40 are raising their voices is Iraq, possibly the most upset they've been about anything since Maggie's iron grip on the keys of Number 10. While having the brass to call one tune "War Poem" doesn't bode well, UB40 reach for the shrewd invective on "Sins Of A Father", a well-written censure of Christian neo-Conservatism and oil lust. Sensibly, the lean skin-and-bone production and avoidance of MOR blandishments make UB40 seem meaner and younger than they have done in years. --Kevin Maidment

Product Description

With a winning sound fusing reggae with both pure pop and topical politics, UB40 has sold over 50 million albums worldwide. Twentyfive years down the road from their groundbreaking debut LP Signing Off, the eight-man British reggae supergroup is still at the top of their game with the new album Who You Fighting For?. Weaving together the band's revolutionary roots and pop sensibilities, their latest is among the best, delivering originals including the title track, "Sins of the Fathers," and "One Woman Man" alongside a handful of irresistible covers, in grand UB40 tradition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best in years!, January 24, 2006

I purchased this as an import from the UK when it was released summer '05. Without doubt, it is the best work they've put forth in years!

To make it better, a 2006 North American tour kicks off in March!!

Buy the album... then see them live! What a "Good Situation" indeed. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A great popular reggae band throws down a great album, May 25, 2007
By Bill Anthony "billjbfan" (North Texas United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
It's hard to believe UB40 has been around nearly 30 years and still sound so fine. They have written several fantastic songs here, and covered a few other great ones. This is get-up-and-dance reggae, sing-along reggae, reggae of love, protest, and philosophy; beautiful stuff. Every song has good lyrics (some great) and every song sounds like a hit.

This is probably their greatest album ever, and I have them all.
Don't miss it.

(also available as an import with a DVD)

5.0 out of 5 stars One of their BEST !, June 10, 2006
This is, without a doubt, one of their best albums to date. No bad tracks on the cd. My favorite tracks are: ONE WOMAN MAN, PLENTY MORE, AFTER TONIGHT (please note: the short version is included on the album - not the Extended VERSION which is 1:40 longer, and the better of the two), WAR POEM, WHO YOU FIGHTING FOR?, .....oh hell, the WHOLE ALBUM is friggin fantastic! BTW, saw them in VEGAS and they were unreal! THey are coming back this summer - august 2006 - highly recommend that you go see them LIVE! And GET THE ALBUM!
