5.0 out of 5 stars Toe-Tappin', Head noddin', great riffs, smokin' guitar. , March 12, 2006

Is this really a CD, or am I there?

It's me, Ace. Got my hat tipped back on my head, got my boots propped up, just sitting there nursing my beer in this smoky enclave, lights on the stage are low, the joint is packed, but I see The Man playing his guitar, hugging it like she was his lover.

Bobby's got a voice that commands, chides, promises and deeelivers!!! Brings to mind the bluesy days of the late 60's, when BBKing was wowing them, only this time, it's Bobby.

"Prayin' The Blues". Listen to the lyrics. Down-to-earth, says it like it IS. Listen to the way Bobby's voice gets all down low and funky, and then the way that guitar of his wails and screams at us,lays down a long riff, and flows into a bluesy rhythm river.

Bobby plays most of the backup instruments as well -- great timing, great flow, great accents, using off-beat and accompanying rhythms. Way to go, Bobby!

Psst -- it's great drivin' music too (just make sure you put down that beer first!)

Then, in contrast to the smokin' wailin' blues, "Sweetest Love", winding down at the end of the CD, is a nice slow, sweet ballad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional , unique, funky blues, June 3, 2006
I agree withe the Blues Revue ad...........and review; They just don't MAKE music like this anymore !! Ballsy, funky, and top-notch guitar predominates. Bobby's voice , as was Hendrix's, is the only appropriate voice. Not a trained singer, Bobby's sexy and both the guitar and voice seem an appendage from his musical soul.......an extention. He's the next "biggy." bets

5.0 out of 5 stars Innovative Blues-Funk, June 1, 2006
I have both Bobby's CDs. I think the artists grew from what was a GREAT CD in "Another Shade of Blues" in production and musicality. "Prayin" has DYNAMITE in it. It starts off with a shuffle (Find That Love) that will stand up to ANY- killer !!, and goes on to whollop in a few very different, yet "trademark Manriquez" ways. "Black & Blue" is an instrumental worthy of Hall of Fame honor. There is a bit of fusion, funky, R&B, and heart and guts Blues music, too. These cds give nothing BUT great songs, as opposed to the usual one, maybe two good cuts per album that I'm used to with other artists. BUY IT !!
