About the Artist
Melbourne, Australia pop unit the Steinbecks emerged from the ashes of the Sugargliders, which disbanded in October 1994 specifically to allow the new group to form; all five members of the Steinbecks vocalist/guitarist Josh Meadows, his guitarist brother Joel, bassist Robert Cooper, drummer Bianca Lew and guitarist/trumpter Adam Dennis were all either a part of, or closely associated with, the Sugargliders as well. Where the previous band recorded only singles, the Steinbecks immediately set about debuting with an LP, and At Home and Abroad With the Steinbecks was released on the Summershine label in 1995. Despite persistent rumors of a break-up, the group returned in early 2000 with Recorded Music Salon.

Product Description
Australian pop 4-piece The Steinbecks release their first new record in three years on November 10th. Branches and Fronds Brushing the Windows sees the 'becks spread their wings, musically and lyrically, from the melody laden anti-war opener 'Guilty Spring' right through to the pulsing and mysterious keyboard driven 8-minute finalé, 'Trying Too Hard'. The Steinbecks emerged in 1994 from the ashes of seminal early '90s pop combo The Sugargliders. The 'gliders released a string of singles and one album for legendary English pop label, Sarah Records. The Sugargliders' appeal was built on the distinctive lyrical subtlety and unashamed pop sensibility of brothers Josh & Joel Meadows. Branches and Fronds is The Steinbecks' fourth major release after At Home and Abroad with The Steinbecks (1995), From the Wrestling Chair to the Sea (1997) and Recorded Music Salon (2000). This latest incarnation of The Steinbecks retains the Meadows brothers' signature warm-yet-sparkling melodies and insightful lyrics, and adds the propulsive basslines of Andy Gosden and unrestrained drumming of Jerry Rinse. the Steinbecks web page: www.microindie.com/steinbecks
