The Wayne 1/2 HP 2,500 GPH submersible utility water pump can handle material up to 1/2-inch thick without getting clogged. It can pump out 2500 gallons per hour, with a bottom suction that takes out water to within an eighth of an inch of the surface. I bought this to re-fill my pond from a nearby creek. Initially, I would only use it for a few hours at a time for fear of overheating. However, I've had it on continuously for over a month now and it is still going (I'm using it as a sort of supplementary inflow for the pond). It has never clogged and puts out a steady stream of water through a garden hose about 100 feet long (with a little less force than you would get from your house). It's really quite amazing and certainly worth the price.

this is the most effective pump that we have used for working on our pool and emptying our sump hole. it gets the water out in a hurry. the use of a 5/8's hose slows removal, but with the attachment that allows the use of a larger hose.... zip.... done.
