Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Someone once said recording artists have their whole lives to write a first album and a year to write the second. As evidenced by the famous "sophomore slump," too many bands know this all too well. Building 429 not only had this to deal with in contemplating a second release but were also coming off a New Artist of the Year Dove Award. Could expectations be any higher for Rise? Does it make the grade? Well, yes and no. The foursome still serves up plenty of power chord-charged rock that they so well introduced on Space In Between Us with "Searching For A Savior," "Fearless," and "Fighting To Survive." Unfortunately much of it is similar in style to what Christian Music Row is churning out these days. But pay attention to the release's latter tracks which may make you wonder just what this band is capable of doing in the future. Those points of light include lead man Jason Roy never sounding so good as on the melodic "Rise"; Roy and guitarist Jesse Garcia whipping up a distinctive guitar hurricane on "Now That It's Over" and "Alive"; and, rhythm section Michael Anderson (drums) and Scotty Beshears (bass) throwing down an awesome groove for guest star Michael Tait (DC Talk) on the gritty "Empty." Pardon the puns, but while this one may not be the proverbial Rise to the top, it is a leap worthy of your faith. --Michael Lyttle

Product Description
Last year their hit song "Glory Defined" exploded onto the Christian music scene as one of the most successful debut radio singles ever, hitting #1 on eight different radio charts. Now, Dove award-winning New Artist of The Year Building 429 returns with a bolder, more aggressive sound on their new releases RISE.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent yet again, April 16, 2006

I,too, wondered how 429 could make a Cd as good as their first but I must admit that they did it.They are truly motivated and their words and music excel so many that are their contemporaries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!, April 3, 2006
I love this CD. It's the second Building 429 CD I've bought, and I actually like this BETTER! If you take this CD and add Glory Defined off of their first album, you would have a perfect CD.
LOVE IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars An "improvement"???? Maybe not as much...., March 19, 2006
By M. A. Davis (Winston-Salem, NC) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
It's funny to read reviews where people say how much of an improvement B429 has made as a band since their debut album. In all actuality, "Rise" is about as close to their original sound as they've gotten on a CD. I've been following the band since 2001, which means I first heard them live, in concert, and have been to at least 10 concerts by them. They are now, as they have always been, a top-notch live band. The harder, more aggressive sound on "Rise" is actually reflective of the sound they've had in concert for the past 5 years. They put out 3 CDs before "Rise," and I can honestly say "Rise" is closest to their live sound they've gotten in the studio. I was slightly disappointed at "Space in Between," because it was NOT reflective of the power of their live performance. It was watered down, in my opinion. "Rise" is definately their redemption from that. I would suggest to anyone who purchased SIB and "Rise", and hasn't seen them live, to go to a concert soon and experience them. You'll find this "different" sound on "Rise" really isn't that different at all.
