I bought 2 TimeMugs from Costco, one all black, and one clear (see-through outer plastic housing which reveals the inner stainless steel lining). I loved them at first because they looked great, kept my coffee well insulated, and because they claimed to be 100% dishwasher safe.

After 4 months of use (about 3-4 days a week), the clear mug started showing moisture on the inside of the plastic housing. So after that, I decided to handwash the mugs instead (a bummer but I still liked using them).

About 2 months later, the liquid on the inside of that plastic housing was no longer clear but coffee-colored. That tells me that somehow my coffee is seeping into the interior of that plastic housing. There was no way for me to easily disassemble the thing to get to that enclosed space to wipe it. So I threw away that mug because I thought it was no longer sanitary. As for the black mug, I suspect that it has the same problem, but I just can't see it since it has an opaque outer plastic housing.

The other problem is the lid. The silver-looking rim of the lid seems to be coming loose from the plastic part due to the fact that the adhesive (or whatever it was) has deteriorated. And that causes dribbling of the coffee, because as you sip, the coffee seeps in between those rim parts. Then halfway through your drink when there's enough liquid accumulated, it starts to dribble on the outside when you tip it to drink. For me to use it, I have to hold a tissue against the mug, between my chin and the lid opening so I don't get coffee drops on my shirt.

I think these problems arose after going through many dishwasher cycles, despite my consistent use of my dishwasher's air-dry mode (not heat mode).

So the sad lesson is: You have to handwash all insulated coffee mugs, even if they say they're 100% dishwasher safe.

Know a woman who has everything? Bet she doesn't have this yet!! It is AWESOME! I got it as a gift from my sister, and everyone who has seen it has given me a compliment on it. It washes great in the dishwasher, doesn't taste like plastic when you drink from it, and looks FABULOUS!! Any latte diva on your list will want one.
