Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Just in time for the summer movie season, Rhino delivers a Man of Steel celebration in 14 tracks from up-and-coming power pop-rock bands, loosely collected around the theme of Krypton's favorite son. The Academy Is… turn in an energetic reading of R.E.M.'s "Superman," while new versions of the Flaming Lips' "Waiting for a Superman" and Donovan's "Sunshine Superman" are mostly disposable renderings of their earlier versions. Sound of Superman sticks pretty much in the preteen appealing guitar rock vein--braver cover choices would have been to revisit 1975's funky "Black Superman Muhammad Ali" or Johnny "Guitar" Watson's "Superman Lover." About as nutritious as a bucket of buttered popcorn with a root beer chaser, these songs go down easy but may leave you feeling like you want to sit down to a green salad of the originals. --Ben Heege

Product Description
The indefatigable Superman legend and brand returns to the big screen this year with the highly anticipated film Superman Returns, starring Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel. In celebration of this latest chapter in an incredible super-hero legacy, 14 hot new bands step out of the phone booth and into the spotlight to deliver a spiritied, Superman-inspired song. Ranging from reinventions of super-powered classics to all-new songs dedicated to Clark Kent's alter-ego, Rhino's unique disc salutes a legend and sends young WMG-affiliated bands souring to new heights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Songs About Superman? Cool, April 4, 2008
By GameraRocks "captpicardfan" (Gillsville, GA USA) - See all my reviews
If you are a Superman nut such as I, then you will like this album. I loved every song, singing about my favorite hero. "Save Me" by Maxeen is great and catchy, and the song "Brainiac's Daughter" sounds like a classic Beatles tune. "Waitin' For A Superman" is also a great song, especially if you know the origins of the song. Overall, I think the die-hard fan would love it.

It's a fun CD to listen to when you're in a good mood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superman Addict, December 18, 2006
I love Superman, it's weird but true, people say I will grow out of it someday, but for now I enjoy collecting almost anything I can get my hands on. That is why I was so excited when I saw this CD. I hadn't heard some of these songs before, but I was very pleased with most of them. But, a great addition to any Superman fan's collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars High emotion on this CD, August 20, 2006
I'm a romantic guy and although I do like a few of the songs on this CD, such as "Saved"(by The Spill Canvas), the one song that I can completely relate to is titled, simply, "Superman"(or as I just like to call it, "you don't know what it's been like") by the Receiving End of Sirens. I relate to the EXTREME strong emotion that is in the lead singer's voice as he screams "You don't know what it's been like, meeting someone like you!"; there is this girl who I like (although I'm shy and can't bring myself to talk to her) and I cry each time I listen to it because it makes me think of her and how important it is that she has struck me in my life; I want her to know that I've noticed her, let her know through the words "you don't know what it's been like meeting someone like you".
