About the Artist

With the release of the collaborative compilation album These Wings Without Feathers featuring Brewer (Ronan Quays) and Lisa Gerrard in 1996, Brewer's music was introduced to an international audience. The Ebbing Wings of Wisdom, Brewer's soon to be re-released debut album, became an underground success story. Following extensive radio play on the BBC, the album led to Brewer scoring numerous films in Europe. For the creation of Hotel de Ville, Brewer retreated to his London studio for over a year, singularly developing the music.

Product Description

Cinematic and darkly seductive, Hotel de Ville is the musical vehicle of composer and vocalist Rhett Brewer. Echoes of Portishead and Sigur Ros or Goldfrapp and Dead Can Dance give way to the distinctive sound that is Hotel de Ville. Taking inspiration from 60’s French pop, operatic intrigue and film noir, Hotel de Ville blends Brewer's other-worldly voice with classical instrumentation and down-tempo percussion. Bittersweet melodies hover above orchestral urgency. Overwhelming elation and desperate heartbreak become bed-fellows, in this refreshing and softly intense work. Enjoy your stay!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime, April 24, 2006
Have been eagerly awaiting the release of this album since hearing a few tracks on Myspace.

The music is so beautiful and moving! Where Sigur Ros leaves off, Hotel de Ville begins.

It's been on the cd player non-stop all day. I fell in love with Rhett's voice on myspace, but that was just a hint of hearing it in stereo!

Dead Can Dance, Goldfrapp and even Gotan Project could be reference points, kind of wrapped into one. But Sublime is the only way to describe Hotel de Ville

I purchased this cd after Rhett added me to his myspace. I love the sad, jazzy melancholy that prmeates the album. It is great to listen to when you need to wind down. There is a hidden story interwoven through the songs, and also in the pictures of this piece. I can't say that I know it in any detail, yet it draws you in and makes you aware of things outside of ordinary reality.

I also have been listening to Rhett's songs on Myspace, and have been eagerly awaiting this release. His music is so exquisite, and so moving; that I can't stop listening to it. Thank you for a beautiful list of songs, I love all of them. He is my new favorite artist!
