Biography

Hailing from Daytona Beach, the metal outfit the Autumn Offering formed in 1999 as a reaction to the pop-punk trends that were dominating the country's airwaves. Sean Robbins (bass), Dennis Miller (vocals), Tommy Church (guitar), Matt Johnson (guitar), and Nick Gelyon (drums) were still in high school during the band's inception, but the youthful lineup nevertheless worked hard to create a gritty,… Read more in Amazon's The Autumn Offering Store

5.0 out of 5 stars No complaints here, June 2, 2006
This is a sold metalcore release. I'll admit, there's nothing too new introduced, but its all done better than most metalcores. There are a couple parts (the chorus of the title track and the beginning of One Last Thrill) where the vocals get really melodic without losing their intensity, and I loved that. I can easily see this band going somewhere if they can incorporate that more into their future releases, but even if they don't this is still good stuff for metalcore fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Autumn Offering - "Embrace the Gutter", May 28, 2006
This CD is a big surprise to me. Since BTBAM' s "Alaska" none CD impressed me. First of all "Embrace the Gutter" is full of solos, what is not common in modern music. Especially, at those who have just growed from metalcore genre. I can honestly say that this CD is 100% metal. You won't find there swedish melodies(maybe except for title song, though it's work very well in this case), cries after girl's departure, tough guy verses. Instead of it, they are bringing heavy music with southern twist, neo - thrash riffage and, once again, a sweet solos. Also, vocals are very characteristic to me; they are adding energy and power to music. Of course, this CD has a bad side, too. Namely, songs are sometimes a little bit boring. It is ONLY ONE reason, why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.
Best tracks:
"Prelude" - An untypical intro. Rather industrial or ambient than metal.
"Decay" - Freakin' good solos.
"Embrace the Gutter" - Interesting, metalcore - insipired riffage, but still a metal song.
"No End in Sight" - Extremelly well writen piece. Has odd break in Reflux style in the middle of song.
"The Final Cut" - Surprisingly beauty outro. Very soothing yet poignant, too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eh., June 15, 2006
I found The Autumn Offering on the music choice metal channel sometime like a year 1/2 ago. I was extremely impressed with the song entitled "Revelation". I introduced the Autumn Offering to many kids around the area, who were also very impressed by this band. The guys vocals were pretty good, the drums were good, but the guitar was amazing in my opinion. Then the Autumn Offering's new CD comes out. This cd is definatly not as impressive as "Revelations of the Unsung". Something is different with guys vocals, like they are more silent then before. And now they sound like they are just trying to be harder. With their first CD, it really amazed me of how much different their style seemed to change. I do admit, I like the cd, but it's not the same Autumn Offering. I'm going to stick with liking the first album the most, and perhaps not even buy this one. I'm hoping...If there is another cd released from them, they go back to their original style because that is the style that grew on me extremely quickly.
