This is a leased product that requires a lease agreement with DIRECTV. As of 3/01/06, all DIRECTV products will be subject to a lease. Conditions of the lease include; an upfront lease fee (the amount will vary based on the product ordered) and a monthly lease fee on the second and each additional DIRECTV receiver per household. Thanks to Tru-Surround with a stereo TV the receiver produces surround-sound like quality. Use Turbo Tune to quickly navigate through your favorite nine channels identified by their logos.

Select up to four personalized channel list for everyone in the household with the Favorites List. Never miss a show again; pre-select up to thirty-two programs and when the show airs the receiver will automatically change to the correct channel.

I have 3 of these in bedrooms in our house, and they are a great and reliable basic receiver we also have an HD DVR in the living room. All our receivers work great. In the 15+ years we have had DirecTV service, all our hardware has worked flawlessly. When I have set up new programming options and now local channels, they were prompt and courteous in helping me. The HD channel line up is great and more to come. No, I don't work for them and don't even have stock in the company.

We recently got DirecTV after seeing their ad blitz for 75 HD channels. They brag about their "digital picture and sound," and their great customer service.
The truth is the only way to get digital picture and sound is with a HDTV and an HDMI. Their picture is actually worse than the picture we got with Comcast. Not to mention there is no two year agreement with cable, no picture loss when it rains, you do not have to pay for "leased equipment, and you do not need an ugly dish hanging on your house.
When we purchased our most recent HDTV, we figured we would replace the DVR we had with DirecTV and get an HD DVR to replace it.
DirecTV told us we would have to pay $299 for the privlige of leasing their receiver from them. In addition to this we would have to pay $50 because we were a new customer "and had not established a credit history with them." Also, we would have to pay $20 for shipping and handling and extend our contract for another two years.
Maybe DirecTV thinks it is in the cellphone business because all they want to do is lock you into long-term contracts and make you bleed money to them forever. Their symbol should be a ball and chain because that is what they really are. Cable here I come!

I am currently trapped in a DirecTV contract. Every time it rains, the TV signal is lost. Additionally, DirecTV nickles and dimes me to death. They advertise you can get programming starting at $29.99, but you will not get out for anything less than about $60.00 once they add all the hidden fees. Additionally, you must pay an extra $5 for each additional TV. We also have the DVR service which is so unreliable, we have to use a VCR as back-up to ensure we get our shows recorded.

Recently, we had to move and suspended our account during the move. After we reactivated our account, we were charged late fees for bills we never received. Our contract was extended another two years without our consent. We called DirecTV service, and they do not care.

Once my contract is over, we will be cancelling DirecTV to go back to cable.
