5.0 out of 5 stars POWER STONE GOES PORTABLE!, January 2, 2007
By Blade (WA, USA) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I received my PSP for Christmas and purchased the extra accesories the next day (e.g. the body armor and Media Manager program). I also got the chance to pick up this game and have enjoyed it since. After all, I absolutely LOVED the Dreamcast versions and wasn't in any way disappointed! This collection includes both Power Stone 1 & 2, which resembles the original game play, characters, and graphics--only smaller! You'll need to update your PSP to at least version 2.81 to play, but this is really no problem since it automatically does it for you (just make sure the battery is fully charged and that the PSP is plugged into a power outlet via the AC adaptor). The only downside I have with this game[s] is that the unlockable features (while good) are limited. Otherwise, for Power Stone fans, this is a must buy and at a very reasonable price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Far better on dreamcast but still decent., March 26, 2007
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I've only played Powerstone 1 briefly and quickly decided it sucked compared to Powerstone 2 in every single way so moving along...

Powerstone 2 is like Super Smash Brothers for those that ignored the Dreamcast. The main differences are that you are fighting in a 3-D arena and the combat is more simplistic so items become a little bit more valuable. There are far more items in Powerstone 2 and you actually have to create the majority of them to use which keeps you playing through the game. The game also presents some ridiculous AI on the higher settings. I have played this game possibly for hundreds of hours and at my prime was just barely able to beat the highest AI setting in adventure mode.

New to the PSP edition...

-More Items (Powerstone 2 only?)

-Characters from 1 are now in 2 and vice versa.

-Minigames are playable once unlocked.

-There's unlockable bonus material like art and music.

-Wireless multiplayer (ad-hoc)

What I feel is wrong with this version when compared to the Dreamcast version...

-Load times, I know a real shocker there. I have yet to play a PSP game that didn't have some load time issues so it's kind of an expected flaw.

-In powerstone 2 sometimes the view is simply too zoomed out making it difficult to see your character, what item your opponent has, or precisely where an object lies.

-The movement just isn't quite right with the joystick nub on the PSP but again that's to be expected.

I picked this game up for $9.99 at Meijer and really can't complain at that price. As mentioned before this is also a great alternative considering how difficult it is becoming to aquire the handful of good games from the Dreamcast, let alone in playable condition. The Dreamcast is quickly going the way of the Saturn in terms of rare, highly desirable games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Power Stone Collection by Capcom, September 27, 2007

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I would definitely Power Stone Collection if you are interested in a constant melee action packed beat'em up game, or if your an old school Power Stone fan who use to own a Dream Cast like me, this game is for you. Power Stone Collection has a perfect port of Power Stone 1 & 2, graphically, and visually. Plus it has an exclusive collection gallery with art and music from Power Stone 1 & 2. The loading times can seem long, but you have to remember, it's a PSP, not a Dream Cast, so it will take awhile. The controls might seem kinda crazy at first, but you'll get use to it. Overall, I think that this game is Awesome!!!

Game play: Same as the original games and still amazing

Graphics: Still the same as the original, and still very good both a PSP and a Dream Cast

Controls: A bit odd at first, but then very easy.

Sound: Absolutely amazing for any fighting game out there.

Overall: A+
