At first glance, the Samsung D357 might look like just another flip phone. Look a little deeper, though, and you'll find high-powered features galore. Start with a speakerphone, add a dash of speaker-independent voice dialing, and sprinkle in Bluetooth, EDGE high-speed data, and wireless modem capabilites. Top it all off with support for push-to-talk instant communications, and you've got a recipe for serious wireless bliss. Design
Inside the D357's sleek clamshell you'll find a large, 128 x 160 color display with support for 65,000 colors. The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary 96 x 64 grayscale display that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side, while most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. There's also a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets. On the left side of the phone you'll find call volume keys, while voice dialing control, the speakerphone, and push-to-talk connectivity are controlled by buttons on the right side.

Calling Features
The D357's phonebook can handle up to 1000 of your contacts with multiple entries per contact -- plenty of room for even the most well-connected folks. In addition to having a discreet vibrating alert, the D357 supports 64-chord polyphonic ringtones, as well as custom MIDI- and MP3-based ringtones that let you use your favorite songs as ringers. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone and more ringtones can be downloaded from Cingular Wireless' MEdia Net service. You can also assign pictures and ringers to your most common callers. Speaker-independent voice dialing makes it easy to call your contacts with the sound of your voice -- no annoying training or recording is required.

With the purchase of Cingular Push-to-Talk service, the D357 becomes a valuable tool for instantly communicating with others in your push-to-talk circle. Talk walkie-talkie style across the largest push-to-talk network in America with the push of a button. You'll also enjoy all of the extra features of Cingular Push-to-Talk, such as Quick Groups, Call Waiting and Availability Status.

Outgoing messages are also supported via SMTP. Meanwhile, there's a built-in web browser for Media Net downloads and mobile web browsing.

The D357 supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the high speed EDGE data protocol. When used with a Cingular data plan and the phone's Bluetooth data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. A number of handy software tools are bundled with the D357, including a voice memo recorder, a calculator with currency converter, a to-do list, a calendar and an alarm clock. SyncML technology lets you synchronize your phone's contacts, calendar, and other data with your PC.

As many people hate this phone I've had it for two years and haven't had any trouble with it what so ever. The only few bugs are the screen is hard to see in sunlight, or if you have it in your pocket and you bump it and you hear "say a command", but thats about it.

Mine didn't come with a camera but it did come with bluetooth and it works very well. I have about 59 ringtones and they sound really good on the speaker. The connection speed isn't great when shopping for pictures, tones, videos, ect. Sending and receiving texts it very easy and I guess my area has a lot of bars cause I can talk quite easily to just about anyone. I rarely find places with no bars on the phone so thats really great.

Well I've never had a fancy phone, and the only thing on this phone I'd add is a music player and thats it. I find it to be a very decent phone so.

I bought 2 of these phones in April because of the Push to Talk feature.

The speaker phone is almost impossible to hear. If you both say something at the same time it cuts out what the other person said. The ear volume is low, you have to push the phone into your ear and have to cut out all your background noise.

The push to talk feature sucks. When you press the PTT button it doesn't work right away. First you get a message that says "keypad lock". Then you press it again and the message goes away. Then you gotta press it again for the PTT screen to come up and then press it again to alert the person. The PTT beeping is extremely loud. If you put the phone on vibrate the beeping sound is lower BUT so is the speaker volume. The PTT is not clear either. It sounds like the other person has the phone in their mouth and you keep having to repeat everything.

The phone is hard to hold. It's constantly slipping out of my hand, luckily I haven't dropped it.

The buttons on the side are touchy. I'm constantly bumping them when my phone is in my purse. I'm either accidently putting the phone on vibrate and missing calls or I hear that lady saying "say a command".

The screen is hard to see if your in the sunlight. When I'm in the car and someone calls me I can barely see who it is and if I'm trying to make a call outside or send a text message then I strain to see the screen.

There's just so many more minor things I don't like about it but I don't want to go on and on. Right now I'm stuck with these phones because I'm on a 2 year contract and it's long past the 30 day return policy.

This was by far the worst cell phone I've ever had. You can't hear anything and people on the other line can't hear you. The buttons on the side are very touchy and also control if the phone is on silent or not. Mine will hit against something in my purse and turn itself on ring. This phone is horrible. I do not recommend it
