Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Move over bossa nova! There's a new beat coming out of Brazil in the form of Cansei de Ser Sexy (Portuguese for "Tired of Being So Sexy"), and it's raucous. CSS consists of six 20-something São Paulistas who are injecting some international exuberance into the Seattle-based Sub Pop label. The only inkling that the group hails from the Southern Hemisphere is the smattering of Brazilian-tinged Portuguese that peppers the album, along with a barely detectable accent in lead singer Lovefoxxx's delivery. The CSS sound is far from traditional folksy world music; rather, it's a mishmash of '80s new wave, electronica, danceable beats, and cheeky lyrics (which are just a bit naughty). Think Berlin and Blondie, with a dash of Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Muffin Spencer of Brassy. This largely female group (all women except the drummer) will have you running to the dance floor in your slouchy boots and skinny jeans faster than you can say "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death from Above"--the first single from the album. --Renata Sadunas

Product Description
From Brazil, CSS is the first South American band Sub Pop has foisted upon the global marketplace. The title is Portuguese for "Tired Of Being Sexy" and the sound is a thick, pulsating thing full of haphazard synths and a come-on of call and response that tears down any attempt at posturing. It's equal parts rock mantra and throwback into something new, transcending boundaries of genre and geography. It goes full speed into dance territory, into the unknown and untouched, to emerge all hot and bothered with wild electro-rock. Quick, tightly-wound, unfastened, and supreme.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best of 06, January 1, 2007
By Turiel (DC, KS) - See all my reviews
Despite positive critical review, it seems sad that this very interesting Brazilian group haven't recieved the attention i'm sure they need.
To start, this group's music is pretty much fun disguised as a album. Totally bizarre, fuzzy, bouncy, warm beats fill the songs with other random sounds of the same nature. But those looking for good pop sound, dont' despair. CSS is one of those few blessed groups who's work can be expermental and random, and yet somehow keep a very charming pop sense.
Honestly, this is fun music for people who take their music seriously. Buy it and find yourself bouncing around to the blippy beats of "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above" or catch yourself mimicing the confident delivery of the line's "I'm offffff daa hooooook..i'm ooffff daa hoooook baby.." It'll happen.
Its hard to find an artist who would exactly compare to them..but I will say that the songs would find themselves at home between songs by groups like Shiny Toy Guns, Ladytron, The Rapture and Peaches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh, Rocking and FUN!, February 12, 2007
I just randomly happened across this group on Youtube of all places, and what a find! I haven't had this much fun listening to an album in ages! I almost feel embarrassed for liking this group so much, and I can't stop playing their songs over and over. Its rare for me to write such a positive review, but this infectiously delicious album earned it. My favorite tracks, are "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above," "Alala" and "F**k Off Is Not the Only Thing You Have to Show."

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant, April 4, 2007
CSS are definitely worth a listen too. I purchased this immediately after hearing their first single on Radio 6. They have a refreshing sound of their own, and I love the confidence they have in their sound. They are definitely one of the best bands to emerge this year. Anxiously anticipating their next release.

CSS is a very nice band. This brazilian band created their own style different from the brazilian traditional rock. A great addition to my collection. I strongly recommend them.
