5.0 out of 5 stars 6 for the band, 4 for the compilation... that gives 5 stars., September 26, 2000
By Juha T Palotie (Helsinki, -- Finland) - See all my reviews
The band and their music are showcased lovingly on this compilation. I have only two gripes about this double CD: first of all, greater care should have been put into the finished product, I find it unacceptable to misspell song titles (Tragedy is spelled Tragdey in the song lists). Secondly, as there are no songs whatsoever from their only major label album (Two steps from the Move, 1984, CBS), it cannot lay claim to the title of the definitive Hanoi Rocks collection.

Buy this in addition to "2 steps" and you have a 3-CD "True" best of set of Hanoi music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Decadent, Dangerous, Delicious: gold!, October 21, 2005
sadly, Hanoi Rocks always seemed to be standing on the side, watching as the bands who they influenced skyrocketed to stardom. bands like Poison, Motley Crue, and Guns N' Roses. but frankly, Hanoi Rocks contains alot more charm and better songs than any of those bands. fusing the best elements of glam, blues, pop, and some strong dub/reggae undertones (mostly in some of the basslines used in a few of their songs); Hanoi Rocks forged a back catalogue of essential and highly influential albums. recommended listening for fans of T.Rex, The New York Dolls, and The Clash. this 2cd set is a collection of their best songs and it's great from start to finish. i am curious to know why no songs were taken from the "Two Steps From The Move", but i can only assume that their major label would not allow any tracks of that record to be issued with this release. oh well...the music that is presented here on this sprawling set is more than enough to openly diplay the creative talent and sheer genius of this impressive band. get it and play it loud!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hanoi Rocks every Morning, August 1, 2000
By Mud Pyramid "rilaly" (Omaha, Nebraska USA) - See all my reviews
Ask Guns-N-Roses who influenced them most. Ask most of those from "the scene" who was nominated the "most likely to succeed", and ask others who had a hand in creating the trashy, big hair late eighties, and most people will say Hanoi Rocks. I came upon this group mostly by accident. Were any of them great musicians; great song writers; or even great show men...unfortunately no!, But there was a certain glam rock/Punk Rock appeal that these guys had that no one else tapped into quite as adeptly. Their soft songs are not sweet, nor are they saccarhine (sic?) but they have this eery quality about them that makes them feel painful. Some of their Beach Boys go punk are very interesting cohesions. "Dead By Christmas" is also one of the greatest songs ever written. "Cafe Avenue," "Motorvatin'," and "'Round the Bend," are the best of the bunch, but like unusual bands Hanoi Rocks' soul was made in between the hits. They were my favorite band for a long time, and I envy all of you who have never heard of this band of incredible chemistry. They belong in the upper echelon of the music chain.
