Premise and title are the only elements this low-budget military drama shares with the 2001 Gene Hackman-Owen Wilson theatrical feature, but those seeking a dose of action won't be disappointed, despite the lack of on-screen star power. Nicholas Gonzalez (Resurrection Boulevard) and Matt Bushell star as Navy SEALs stranded in North Korea after a mission to destroy a nuclear plant is aborted; a brace of dependable character actors (including Keith David, Bruce McGill, and Glenn Morshower) debates with President Peter Coyote on the best plan of action to bring the troops home safely. Writer/producer/director James Dodson's approach may strike some as less than subtle, but he keeps the film's pace brisk and the action heavy, and yields some commendable results on what is clearly a limited budget. I've seen both movies and do not agree that the movie is "shaking". The movie's style is done in a ture to life style that reflects the energy of the time and place. The special effects are better than the first movie. One in particular is when a speeding bullet flying toward the screen. I have seen many directors try this effect before and Director, James Dodson gets it right.This is the first time I have ever felt that a bullet fired was really going to get ME. I kid you not - right between the eyes! No 3-D effect ever matched this shot in it's intensity.Simply unbeleiveable!

For all of you out there please consider that this movie had a 3 million budget not 10 million like the first. "A list" actors were used in the first, as opposed to lessor well known in the second. BEL2 had only a three million budget AND had a better effect and a better story line!

Don't be fooled by some reviewers here that exaggerate and can't see past the first movie-

I agree with reviewer M.G.Phillips, some of the camera action is in a style that depicts action/movement but it is certainly no Blair Witch Project.

Director James Dodson with a limited budget has done wonders with this movie. His cooperation with the writers and actors is laid out extremely well and the total overall effort, I believe is on par with the first movie .

Not every director with a 3 million dollar budget, has been able to give so much integrity and impact without sacrificing artistic merit. This movie is timely because of world politics and it is easily believable - the way Director James Dodson envisions. It is amazing to me when the first review of a movie gets a negative review and some reviewers jump on the band wagon and follow suit .

Behind Enemy Lines II: Axis of Evil doesn't give you quite are much as the first. The plot is decent but holds more your typical low budget Hollywood hocus-pocus when it comes to substance.

The film centers on a North Korean Missile sight and a ton of your typical war room antics similar to everything from Armageddon to an episode of "The Ring". Arguments between a restrained United States president and a war hungry general go back and forth until you are yawning. Meanwhile, back on some passenger jet in the sky, a group of Navy Seals is getting ready to bail out over North Korea, where they plan to take out the Missile sight. After two leave the plane, the mission is suddenly aborted. Four end up "behind enemy lines" and eventually are compromised while also losing communication with staff. Tensions increase when things get dirty on the ground, and the president is forced to make a decision that could end up provoking the North Koreans to launching a strike against South Korea.

The film has some major actors back home at the pentagon that we have seen in these roles, or movies and TV shows like this before. Peter Coyote plays President Manning, while Bruce McGill plays General Vance.

Cinematic Appeal: C- on this one. First off, we get the grayish overtones to create a gloomy landscape for North Korea. Similar to some "Saving Private Ryan" or "Flags of our Fathers" battle scenes. Okay, that may be nitpicking, I just think that this kind of visual effect works great for the WWII films but trying to create it in a modern day Korea wasn't necessary. I would have to say that the "shaky camera" scenes during some shootouts were way overdone. Its one thing to try and create a more "realistic" depiction of the combat scenes, but by the third trigger pull we're suffering from the spins. Something else that was strange was trying to make the viewer believe that after causing enough havoc to ring every alarm in the country, the Seals along with some South Korean fighters are riding along for miles on an open road, exposed in the back of a small dump truck. You think the North Koreans wouldn't be checking the roads? Some things have changed from the first film, where they used satellite imagery to briefly track the man behind enemy lines. In this one, the techs must have been trying to fix it, because even though they constantly flash images of ground bases and the missile sight, they neglect to use it at all for locating the SEAL team. This would have been pretty standard since the sudden loss of communication results in them presuming the Seals failed the mission, leaving Staff to turn to "Plan B".

What the film lacks in some areas it tries to make up for in sheer combat. If you like battle scenes with lots of automatic fire then you may just enjoy this one. I think the first one had more suspense and a little less hoopla. Many more characters come into play but it doesn't do anything to add to it, as well as the side story of the tribunal for one of the SEALS towards the end of the film. I wish I could have given it more credit but considering how many other low grade military/international espionage/special ops movies there are on the rack, this one doesn't come across as very good, and just blends in with the rest of them.
