Product Description

From the Manufacturer
Triceratops was a rhinoceros-like dinosaur. It walked on four sturdy legs and had three horns on its face along with a large bony plate projecting from the back of its skull (a frill). One short horn above its parrot-like beak and two longer horns above its eyes. It had a large skull, one of the largest skulls of any land animal ever discovered. Triceratops was about 30 feet long (9 m), 10 feet tall (3 m), and weighed up to 6-12 tons. This hand painted replica comes equipped with booklet containing scientific data about Triceratops and a figure of a human in the same scale, to facilitate comparison of the size. Sculpted in close cooperation with the Natural History Museum of the Humboldt-University Berlin.

Product Description

5.0 out of 5 stars Another fine dinosaur., December 22, 2008

My daughter really loves Triceratops, so we had to get this one as well. We've had an early Christmas with one set of relatives, so she's already been playing with this 1:40 scale Triceratops & the 1:40 scale Stegosaurus.

Like the other dinos in this 1:40 scale range from Schleich, it comes with a little plastic man (unpainted) to show the relative size of the dino to a human being.

The Triceratops is a little dull in coloration compared to the Stegosaurus & even the 1:40 Allosaurus, not that anybody knows what colors these animals actually were in "real life". Length-wise, it's about the same size as the Stegosaurus, but you can tell the difference between the Stegosaurus' small head and Triceratops' enormous head. That physical difference, and the fact that these replicas are done in the same scale - it really gives you a way to picture the very real distinctions between these animals without having to take a trip to a natural history museum.

One more comment after a good amount of play: the paint isn't sealed in a durable manner, so with some dragging or rough treatment, the tips of the Triceratops' horns & beak-y mouth & tail have worn through to the lighter colored plastic. The plastic itself is durable, and with Daddy's hobby paints, it wasn't hard to make the Triceratops look like new again. However, it's probably not a good idea to give these dinos to a child who is in the "put everything into the mouth & chew on it" phase.
