Product Description

Product Description

The MouseBean Hand Rest is designed to provide support, protection and comfort when using a mouse. Following detailed research into the causes of mouse-induced wrist pain, the MouseBean Hand Rest tackles the problem by applying sound ergonomic principles, stylish product design and engineering.Professional computer users have put the MouseBean Hand Rest through extensive trials and the device has been tested and endorsed by a consulting surgeon. The MouseBean Hand Rest protects the delicate median nerve that runs through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. It does this by preventing the central part of the wrist from being pressed against a hard surface. The MouseBean Hand Rest supports the hand on the soft fleshy parts either side of the median nerve.Damage to the median nerve is commonly experienced as tingling or numbness in the thumb and first two fingers but can cause a variety of symptoms including burning and tenderness in the forearm and aching in the wrist joint. The MouseBean Hand Rest can help to prevent serious nerve damage. The MouseBean Hand Rest elevates the forearm to maintain a straight wrist. This reduces stress on the tendons where they run through the carpal tunnel. Overuse of the hand and fingers when the wrist is bent can lead to tenosynovitis (inflammation of the covering of the tendons), a painful condition affecting the forearm. Resting the forearm on the desktop can become increasingly uncomfortable. The MouseBean Hand Rest allows the wrist to rotate into a comfortable position and can be used on either hand. The gently rounded base allows it to slide on and off the edge of a mousemat without snagging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Instant relief, October 10, 2007
By Skip Savage (West Vancouver, British Columbia Canada) - See all my reviews
I work all day in front of a computer and recently began to suffer hand and wrist pain from mousing. Seeking relief, I tried a MS Natural Mouse (better, but still a mouse), a Wacom tablet (good but too large for my needs), and finally a Cirque touchpad (excellent). My root problem was a death grip on the pointing device, something a touchpad eliminates by design.

However, as great as it is, a touchpad encourages side-to-side wrist movement, when ideally your arm should move from the shoulder and elbow. This happens because the wrist naturally sits on the desk and friction keeps it there. Enter the Mousebean.

Like a specialized tool perfect for what it's supposed to do, this ingenious little device lightly sticks to the bottom of my hand and lets it skid around on the desk as I stroke the touchpad. Although this product was built to connect to a mouse, for my purpose it has to ride free since the touchpad does not move. The connector retracts into the body for stowage.

The little pads really do help protect the median nerve and gave me instant relief from discomfort I didn't even know I had. And the little height advantage it gives means I don't have to extend my wrist as much.

While it comes in a variety of vile colors, the body on mine is made from exactly the same black material as my touchpad, which I mention for those discerning people who care about such things.

To the people behind this product, thank you for believing in it and bringing it to the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic product, October 1, 2008
I was having significant issues with pain and strength in my mousing arm prior to using the Mousebean product. Tingling sensations in my arm, pain in my elbow, and weakness in my hand were all common maladies before using Mousebean. I was unable to pick up items such as a briefcase without significant discomfort. Within two weeks of using Mousebean, all the pain and discomfort disappeared. Phenomenal!

The attachement to the mouse failed after about a week, but I found having the Mousebean trail the mouse without the tether was just as effective and, in some cases, even better, for instance such as doing artwork.

Bottom line: if you are experiencing pain in your hand and/or forearm and you use a mouse frequently, try the Mousebean. It worked for me!
