Patti putting the Soul into Gospel Music., January 4, 2007
There is no question that Miss Patti Labelle is probably the most soulful singer alive and it is evident in this long overdue Gospel Cd from the one and only Patti Labelle. It is hard to describe what soul is but when you hear Patti sing, you know what it is. This CD is yet another turn in Ms. Labelle's long career. The songs are an excellent mix with both contemporary Christian songs and more standard classical Gospel. On the opening Track "Did You Pray Today" , Patti delivers an engergetic performance. My favorite tracks are "Anything", "Walking Away" with CeCe Winans, and "Walking Around Heaven", "My Everything" with Wynonna Judd. Patti gives consistent great performances throughout the CD. This is a great effort and hopefully we'll hear another Gospel Album from miss Patti real soon. And as it was stated in another review on here...this CD is Grammy worthy in my opinion.
The only complaint I have about the Cd is the production. While Patti sounds great, A little more time in the mixing room would have made a big difference on this CD. I'm also not crazy on the backing choir on most of the songs. While Patti sounds real soulful, many times on this Cd the choir in the background sounds like something I'd hear at Disney or Great Adventure. The production doesnt match Patti's soulful singing. However this is not the case on "Did You Pray Today", where was this soulful choir for the rest of the CD?
Overall though, this CD is highly enjoyable and hopefully a major label will pick Patti up and give her the production and promotion Patti deserves. Patti has one thing a lot of Christian contemporary artist and even gospel artist of today are missing...soul!

What Happened Miss Patti ?!?, January 13, 2007
I luv me some Miss Patti just like everyone else..... but what happened? Where's that voice that goes bezerk in concert when she sings gospel? I waited years for Miss Patti to deliver an out-n-out gospel album and have to say I am very disappointed in this. Sorry, but I have to be honest. We didn't need a 27th version of You Are My Friend. Besides whoever said that was a gospel song?! This is the same kind of disappointment I had with Jennifer Holliday's "gospel" album. Please LORD, let Martha Wash's upcoming gospel album be a great one with all songs being top ten material. We get enough filler on the regular releases, we sure don't need it on a gospel album. Sorry Patti, I will continue to buy your music, but this is not a gospel album. It was a cop-out to call it The Gospel According To... because then you can put whatever you want on the album and call it "gospel". Perhaps I expected too much. I put Miss Patti high on a pedestal with the greats- Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, Martha Wash, Donna Summer, etc. I guess I should thank someone that there isn't a gospel version of Lady Marmalade on here.

WAITED SO LONG BUT SO WORTH IT, January 6, 2007
I REMEMBER WAY BACK TO ONE NIGHT WHEN PATTI AND BUD WERE TALKING ABOUT PUTTING TOGETHER HER FIRST GOSPEL ALBUM YES IT WAS YEARS AGO BUT YOU KNOW THEY SAY ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO THOES WHO WAIT AND YES I WAS ONE OF THOES GUYS WHO WAS AT WALMART AT 7:00 AM ON THE 21 OF NOVEMBER YOU SEE I HAD TO CATCH A PLANE THAT MORNING TO NEW YORK AND I JUST HAD TO STOP AT THE POST OFFICE SO I COULD EXPRESS MAIL NOT ONE BUT 3 COPYS OF HER CD TO SOMEONE IN PORTUGAL (LOL) AND THAT SOMEONE IS MIGUEL AND HE HAS BEEN ASKING ME TO PUT A REVIEW ON AMAZON I SHOP ON AMAZON BUT NEVER THOUGHT OF POSTING REVIEWS WITH THE THINGS I BOUGHT CAUSE MOST OF THEM HAVE GONE TO PORTUGAL (LOL) ANY WAY THIS CD FROM PATTI LABELLE WHO I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING FOR OVER 21 YEARS HAS REALLY BROUGHT ME BACK TO THE FIRST NIGHT I SAW HER IN 1985 YOU KNOW YOU GOTTA START YOUR DAY WITH "DID YOU PRAY TODAY" IT MIGHT BE TO MUCH FOR SOME OF YOU THAT EARLY BUT IT IS ALL ABOUT STARTING YOUR DAY WITH YOUR HIGER POWER AND TO LISTEN TO HER SING "WALK AROUND HEAVEN" LORD GOD ALMIGHTY I CAN'T BEGIN TO EVEN YOU TELL ALL THE PEOPLE THAT WILL BE WAITING FOR ME AND IT'S BECAUSE THEY ALL LEFT ME TO SOON THAT SONG FILLED MY EYE'S WITH SO MANY TEARS I COULDN'T SEE BUT ALL IS I COULD DO WAS TO LISTEN TO "GOD AIN'T THROUGH" BECAUSE IT'S JUST THAT WAY YOU KNOW I WAS NEVER ANY GOOD WITH GOOD BYES AND TO LISTEN TO HER SING "WALKING AWAY" MAKES SO MUCH SENSE TO ME BUT "ANYTHING" THAT WE TAKE FOR GRANTED CAN SO EASILY BE TAKEN FROM US JUST BREAK DOWN THE WORDS TO "YOU ARE MY FRIEND" AND I HAVE TO TELL YOU ONE NIGHT IN BROOKLYN PATTI HAD ME ON STAGE WITH HER JUST AS SHE STARTED TO SING THAT SONG AND SHE SANG IT RIGHT TO MY FACE AND TOOK ME DOWN TO THE FLOOR WITH HER AND TOLD ME NOT TO LET HER GO SO I SLIPPED A CROSS INTO HER HAND SOME THING I GIVE HER AT EVERY CONCERT SO ALL IS I CAN SAY ABOUT THAT IS WHEN SOME ONE COMES INTO YOUR LIFE AND YOU FEEL ITS RIGHT DON'T LET THEM GO BECAUSE THEY CAN BECOME YOUR FRIEND FOR LIFE
I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WAS THE KIND OF REVIEW I SHOULD HAVE WRITTEN CAUSE FOR ME WHEN YOU SIT DOWN AND PUT PATTI ON SHE IS A LADY THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE SHE CAN MEND A BROKEN HEART FULFIL AND AILING SOUL AND NO MATTER WHAT ELSE YOUR GOING THROUGH THERE IS A SONG FROM PATTI LABELLE THAT WILL MAKE IT ALRIGHT YES SOME SAY LIKE HER SISTER JACKIE DID YOU SHOULD BE BIGGER AND YOU SHOULD BE BETTER AND PATTI REPLIED WITH I'M AS BIG AS I WANT TO BE
IF THERE IS ANY BODY WHO THINKS THEY CAN STAND NEXT TO A PIANO AND SING "THE LORD'S PRAYER" THEY WAY PATTI HAS DONE ON THIS CD WELL GOD BETTER HELP YOU
MAYBE I SAID ALL THE WRONG THINGS BUT WHAT I DO KNOW IS THAT PATTI LABELLE DESERVES TO WIN THE GRAMMEY THIS YEAR FOR AN ALBUM THAT NOT ONLY IS SO DEAR TO HER HEART BUT HOW SHE GIVES AWAY WHAT IS SO GRAICIOSLY BIN GIVEN TO HER I LOVE YOU PATTI LABELLE AND YOU KNOW YOU HAVE "SAVED MY LIFE" ALWAYS PETER
