Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Early in the charming romantic comedy Boynton Beach Club, one randy 70-something guy makes a heartfelt toast to "sex after 60"--in all of its untidy, slightly saggy, unpredictable glory. And so is this film, by Susan Seidelman, as much a toast to love among the retiree set as her Desperately Seeking Susan was a valentine to Madonna and the early '80s hipster scene. The all-star cast, including Joe Bologna, Dyan Cannon, Sally Kellerman, Brenda Vaccaro, and Michael Nouri, explore the nuances of grief, loss, heartbreak, and horniness in a retirement community in Boynton Beach, Fla. The usual jokes about senior communities--the outnumbering of men by women, the orchestrated community-center social lives, the bad driving--are here, but with a twist. Seidelman is just as interested in showing that some things, like schoolgirl crushes, one-night-stand cads, and finding love when you think you're not even looking, are as universal whether you're 17 or 70. While some of the cast seem almost distracting at the beginning of the film, because of apparently drastic plastic surgery (Cannon and Kellerman, especially), by the film's end they blend in with the rest of the cast, just as facelifts coexist with sagging jawlines in real Florida towns. Boynton Beach Club has a big heart, and the heart, thankfully, never shows its age. --A.T. Hurley

Product Description
Recently widowed Marilyn (Brenda Vaccaro), still reeling over the sudden death of her husband, finds an unexpected new circle of friends when she accepts an invitation to join The Boynton Beach Bereavement Club. While not ready to embark on a relationship herself, she is amused to realize that many of her contemporaries are actively looking for love. Lois (Dyan Cannon) is being courted by a younger man (Michael Nouri), while Harry (Joseph Bologna) tries internet dating and encourages his friend Jack (Len Cariou) to pursue a romance with the mysterious Sandy (Sally Kellerman). The Boynton Beach Club proves that 60 IS the new 40 and you’re never too old to fall in love.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Loved it! , January 5, 2007
By Sandra R. Lenore (Smithfield, RI) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I may not be ready to retire, nor do I plan to do so in Florida, but the movie's sweetness, honesty, and genuine situations are those I"m sure I'll be reintroduced to wherever I end up.If you've ever been to Boynton Beach, or any retirement community nearby, you'll agree that the movie characters are caricatures of themselves...and exactly what you'll see....facelift city (the state's motto will soon be "State of Perpetual Surprise"), glitz, gab, diamonds and baubles. Most true to real life are the friendships and personal lives of the lonely widows/widowers, kept busy with classes and activities, new and old friends/..like a daycamp. I laughed and cried. Excellent writing, superb directing, and just pure fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boynton Beach has it all..., January 2, 2007
Boynton Beach Club is what great movies are all about: entertaining and (very) funny, yet insightful and serious when appropriate, and with characters you get to know and love. The movie's cast of seasoned and excellent actors and the compelling storylines make this movie appealing to people of all ages. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for ANY age, February 11, 2007
Alot of these reveiws said that they liked this movie but that it was only for the baby boomers. I am definitly not a baby boomer! Ill be just turning 19 this year and I absolutly loved this movie! I first saw it with my grandparents and I found it hilarius!! I may have never lost a spouse, or had a spouse, but beyond that this movie is just about people and it was those emotions that I could relate to. I have since dragged many of my equally youthfull friends to this movie and they have all loved it!! If a bunch of college freshmen could look past the wrinkles to see this amazing movie im sure the middle aged crowd can as well.
