Product Description

“Bad Frank” is a story of a two men, one a decent person trying to get by in a harsh world. The other, a brute who knows only violence. The two conflict on their ideas of how to live in this modern world where it takes lots of money to live. While fictional, this story mirrors what we see each day and night on TV. As in real life, the end is sometimes the beginning.

About the Author

I was born a sharecroppers son, a few miles outside Kennett, Missouri. I grew up on the farm and led a very sheltered life until I was drafted into the US Army in 1969. After serving my country as a medic, then a tank-crew member, clerk, intelligence specialist and military policeman, I went into law enforcement and spent twenty plus years as a patrolman, sergeant, detective, training officer and assistant chief of police. I held a license for six years as a private detective, served as a councilman and then was voted in as Village president. I'm married with six children and an increasing group of grandchildren. I now work in corporate security, having retired from the police department. I am the author of two books, Dreams In Blue: The Real Police and Rubal. Both can be found at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.

5.0 out of 5 stars taut, tense crime thriller, January 13, 2008

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
Bad Frank is an excellent short story by Richard Neal Huffman; the story grips you and holds your attention until the very last word. The story is well written with just the right amount of detail to keep the plot moving along at a good pace. Huffman writes about the criminal mind so well partly because he's had experience fighting it in his work; and his creativity impresses me also.

Frank is a tough guy--to say the least--who claims not to have feelings although he sure gets savagely angry a lot. He also holds a "friend" hostage, essentially bullying his partner in crime to stick with him. His "friend" doesn't like it one bit; and he doesn't want Frank too close to his girlfriend Sarah, either.

Together Frank and his "friend" go on adventures that may well horrify you. The scenes are so well depicted that I could rapidly conjure up images of the characters in the story immediately as I read about them. This short story also comes to a screeching end that you won't forget anytime soon.

Overall, Bad Frank by Richard Neal Huffman is a taut, tense crime thriller with more than just a drop or two of blood. I highly recommend this piece for people who enjoy crime stories and well written literature in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars A skin-crawling story that held me spellbound ..., April 17, 2007
At the heart of all good stories are the primal fears. In "Bad Frank," Richard Neal Huffman takes one of those skin-crawling fears and fashions from it a horrifying story so real you'll feel as though you're there with the victims. This author's dialogue and description are so true to life, it's obvious he knows about crime and the criminal mind.

This is a story of one man holding his "friend" hostage through various threats, while forcing him to commit atrocious acts. My heart went out to his friend, wondering how the poor man could get away from such evil without endangering himself and his fiance.

I found my eyes riveted to the pages as I kept turning, eagerly hoping the "friend" would find a way out ... but then, without warning, the author screeched to a shocking ending that made me gasp for air. Often in short stories I can guess the ending, but not this one; the ending hit me like a punch in the stomach.

You must read this story to experience the horror of Frank's homicidal tendencies and the jolt of the astonishing ending. "Bad Frank" whetted my appetite for more of this author's literary offerings. After reading his other short stories, I plan to read one of his full-length novels, "Dreams in Blue: The Real Police."

Long after reading this story, the ending still lingers in my mind; the mark of fine writing, in my opinion. A great job, Mr. Huffman. Keep delivering stories like this and you will make your literary mark.

5.0 out of 5 stars The criminal mind, December 18, 2006
By David Schwartz (Fair Oaks, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is the short and violent story of a thug, told with the kind of realism and insight only a writer with direct experience can muster. Without doubt, Neal Huffman has that kind of background. In this story, Frank and his friend take us on a tour of homicidal mania that ends in a way that will surprise you. If you're a fan of crime fiction, you'll enjoy this one. I did.
