3.0 out of 5 stars I'm Yours Boston, August 14, 2007
Really good CD. The first half features Beijing-based punk band Brain Failure, and second half is all Big D. The album artwork is really nice, and when I saw them live last, they were giving out posters for this album and their newest release, Strictly Rude. While this album isn't as good as Strictly Rude, it definitely acts as a good lead-in. The first Big D song on this album is faded, which if you've ever seen Big D since fall of 2006, is their first thing they play while warming up. The other tracks range from decent to good, and as an added bonus, on Brain Failure's half, some of the songs feature vocals by Dicky Barrett! (If you don't know who Dicky Barrett is, he was the vocalist for the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, which was a prominent Boston ska-core band during the 90s ska revival.)

The backstory behind Big D's portion and the Strictly Rude album was that they wrote 40-some odd songs, the best and most traditionally ska-oriented of which became Strictly Rude (Rudie is an old term refering to listeners of ska). They had also planned to use the remaining tracks to create two other albums/EPs: Strictly Thrash (the heavier rock stuff) and Strictly Dub (the more reggae oriented stuff). What ended up happening was that Strictly Thrash merged with Brain Failure for the split LP that you see here. With that in mind, just realize that the songs here are a little heavier that Strictly Rude and probably closer to How It Goes (their 2004 release) and enjoy it nonetheless.
