Product Description

Meet Patch Adams (Academy Award-winner Robin Williams), a doctor who doesn't look, act or think like any doctor you've met before. For Patch, humor is the best medicine, and he's willing to do just about anything to make his patients laugh - even if it means risking his own career. Based on a true story, Patch Adams combines sidesplitting humor with an inspiring story that transcends the traditional comedy.

Academy Award-winners Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding, Jr. embark on a supernatural journey beyond the realm of mortality in this visually stunning and unforgettable epic. After Chris Nielsen (Williams) dies in an accident, he tries to remain close to his beautiful mortal wife, Annie (Annabella Sciorra). With the friendly spirit (Gooding, Jr.) assigned to guide him, he begins to adapt to his new state of being in a setting that can only be described as heavenly. But when his distraught wife takes her own life, she is banished to an eternal damnation. Chris vows to find her so they can share eternity together, but no one has ever succeeded in rescuing a soul from such a horrific fate. With the help of his heavenly friends, Chris sets out on the most perilous and harrowing journey of his life, or afterlife: a quest for everlasting love that will take him to hell and back!

3.0 out of 5 stars "You're in Heaven", July 30, 2009
"What Dreams May Come" (1998) for most of its length is a downer. Be prepared for some melancholy stuff. There are at least two Robin Williams personas; one is the comic, another is the tear-jerker sentimentalist. We certainly don't get the comic in this one. Robin, a doctor, loses his two children in an automobile accident. He was able to endure the grieving process and go on with his life, but his wife was not. They were soul mates. From their first meeting theirs was a magic love affair. But from the start viewers had the feeling that they, the couple, and yes, the viewers were going to have bad luck. The morning his two children took off on the fateful trip, we had the feeling tragedy was impending.
Then Robin gets killed in an automobile accident, and he goes to Heaven. It's a beautiful place with impressionistic paints and colors that are spectacular. They are visualizations of his wife's work. The movie has really stunning special effects with surreal scenes that make you feel as if paintings have come to life. We see a ghastly and distressing Hell that may shake you up. I saw this in Blue-ray which added to the experience.
In Heaven Robin is given two guides at different times, one Cuba Gooding, Jr. and the other played by Rosalind Chao. His wife is distraught over first the death of the children and then her husband.
The trouble is that the two children are perfect, and Robin, against all odds seeks to do the impossible while in Heaven. As viewers our journey through the glorious world of special effects is memorable, but somehow we may have the feeling we've been taken and we've undergone some manipulation. The movie is spiritual without being religious. If you've seen this movie once, I don't think you'll want to return to it.
I'll be reviewing "Patch Adams" shortly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mother's Day Gift, June 3, 2009
My sister had requested DVDs of Patch Adams & What Dreams May Come (she loves Robin Williams). I had looked around locally for it & then tried Amazon. Ordered it online & she was trilled. It was a great price too. So I made my sister very happy & it really didn't cost me much money or effort. Thank you

5.0 out of 5 stars as different as night and day, December 6, 2008
The story of Patch Adams is heartwarming, although Donner party of 50 is a misnomer. The other movie has a story that travels into the after death unkonwn. These view points may differ depending on your belief. Still I think every person believing in God should see this movie.
