4.0 out of 5 stars Great debut album, May 5, 2008
By Paul Allaer (Cincinnati) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Cookies (Audio CD)
Let me state upfront that I had never heard of the 1990s, were it not for the music station I listen to, WOXY (BAM! The Future of Rock n Roll!), the internet-only station that is, bar none, the best source and listening pleasure for indie-rock music in the US. I heard one of 1990s' songs on there and decided to check them out.

On "Cookies" (12 tracks, 37 min.), the Scottish trio brings a fun and irreverant sound of music, with great result. The band reminds me at times of Louis XIV (minus the glam), just great guitar-driven rock. Check out the opener "You Made Me Like It", an irresitable singalong stomper. Other highlights on the album are the tongue-in-cheek yet delicious "Cult Status", "You're Supposed To Be My Friend", with a great guitar lick that drives the song, the light "Pollokshields", and towards the end of the CD "Thinking Of Not Going", which crashes your speakers, just great. The closing track "Situation" summarizes the album perfectly.

At 37 min., the album just zooms by. The band sounds tight throughout, and you'll find yourself playing this again and again. I haven't had the opportunity to see the 1990s in concert yet, but I hope to at some point, hopefully not too long from now. Meanwhile, "Cookies" is highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Summer Music, August 31, 2007
By RogerS. (Madison, AL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cookies (Audio CD)
Not original but it's fun and it's great at this time of the year. End of Summer Music. Forget about work or school. Just turn the volume up and enjoy what's coming out of your speakers.
