5.0 out of 5 stars off the chain!, May 1, 2007
Director Edgar Wright and the team behind the making of this CD gets my Quentin Tarantino Awesome Soundtrack Award. ...Not that one actually exists, but hopefully you'll know what I mean when I say that Tarantino has a certain knack for coloring his films with well-picked songs that also bear repeated listenings. The "Hot Fuzz" OST follows expertly in this tradition. With overlapping relevant film dialogue binding each track with the next (practically no dead air whatsover), it's a complete, continuous, cohesive album, unlike your standard soundtrack that pastes a bunch of unrelated pop songs together in hopes you remember which parts they came from, if they're even in the movie at all. I love how this soundtrack takes you through the movie all over again. It's like the whole movie, but for my eardrums instead of my eyeballs.

Wright explains in the CD liner notes how listening '70s glam rock and bubblegum pop conjures up classic cop movies for him. Fair 'nuff! The more I listen to this, the more I get it. There's just nothing like crunching the gas pedal and firing up the sirens while guitar riffs crackle through the speakers (at least that's what it looks like in the movie). "Goody Two Shoes" will forever bring to my mind Sgt. Nicholas Angel being an all-'round perfect police officer. The Kinks' "Village Green Preservation Society" was a truly spot-on choice to represent the country town of Sandford. "Fire" brings up Timothy Dalton as the smarmy evil villain. "Here Come the Fuzz" by Jon Spencer & The Elegant Too is my personal favorite because I think it sums up the entire movie nicely, with its mutant blend of hard rock and groovy techno, and lines like "Straight outta Sandford!" and "Sweet Danny Buttahmannnn" that just make me laugh and yearn to see the film again. And there were moments during composer David Arnold's "The Hot Fuzz Suite" that did indeed move me to shed man-tears, even though I'm a lady. But mostly I just felt like firing a gun in the air and going "AAAHHHH!"

4.0 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack, but with a minor irritation, September 30, 2007
When I purchased this soundtrack I was unaware that the songs would have sound clips from the movie posted on either the beginning or the end (or both) of the songs. While it is fine in some cases, it can be irritating on repeat listens of the cd.

I would like to applaud the selections, however, as the songs selected were chosen for how well the fit the movie & scene instead of inserting the latest hit song randomly into the soundtrack. This is how a soundtrack should be made. That factor is why I am able to tolerate the sound clips on the cd, since if you were to play the cd from beginning to end it will (through the soundclips & music) pretty much tell the entire story of Hot Fuzz from beginning to end.

It would have been nice if the sound bites were a seperate track before each song instead of posted onto the songs themselves. Still, it's a good soundtrack, so I can't complain too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars "You make us all look bad.", April 30, 2007
By James Wu (Boston, MA, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright have done it yet again, only Hot Fuzz is even better that Shaun of the Dead, especially where the soundtrack's concerned! David "James Bond" Arnold contributes great tracks (any chance of an isolated score?), and the music choices (The Kinks! Supergrass!!) are just terrific, both in the film and on their own. I can't recommend the film highly enough: run right out and see the damn thing now! Then get the soundtrack as soon as you can--it's the dog's bollocks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but yes, the soundtrack voiceovers are a bit much....

3.0 out of 5 stars Dialogue is annoying
Sorry, but the dialogue intro to each song is annoying. The songs are good, but on my second listen, I am starting to get tired of them.
