Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This Seattle duo made an album with soft, layered vocals that float over textural acoustics, "In Camera" is an audible effigy of a time past, and an album made for forgetting and remembering. Drawing sonic inspiration from the Velvet Underground as well as the studio experimentation of Lee Hazlewood, each track is a study in expansion, centered loosely around chiming guitars and swirling melodies. Grant Olsen's hazy croon is lifted by the smooth harmonies of Sonya Westcott, and both reel in the influence of Nancy Sinatra between the familiar crash of a tambourine and layers of guitar. This debut is built upon nostalgia and exudes an undeniably earnest warmth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hazy Brilliance, July 20, 2007
By Tom B. "Tom B." (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews
This record is damn near perfect. From opening to closing the album moves through a fuzzy warm world of glockenspiels, acoustic guitars, and harmoniums. Male and Female vocals coil around each other with some of the best lyrics I've heard in ages (ie. "birds are little words coming through your teeth, and with broken wings, they'll make a mess and i'll make them run" or "my fingers and your buttons are like kissing cousins, making fabrics come undone." Sometimes you have to work a little to understand what's being said beneath the reverb but like early REM records the effort is well worth it and the magical hazy production would be spoiled without the effect. If you dig the lighter side of the Velvet Underground or the intimacy of early Luna then this record is for you. Fans of Linkin Park or Incubus (like the last reviewer I suspect) should look elsewhere for their summer soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars 1967 heaven, August 24, 2007
Do we really need another Yo la Tengo? Or Velvet Underground tribute band 30 years on? Well, actually yes we do. In a world of bland (at least here in the UK) 1979 new wave copyists ((r)kaiserlightviewchiefs godawfulness) we have to look to you dear cousins for inspiration. This is simply beautiful. I can't add much to Tom B's review below but if you don't melt to There are too many Birds or Flashing the Lobby Lights or the most obviously Velvets influenced 1,000 Words you're a heartless beastie or a razorlight fan or tone deaf or all three.
Comparison warning: If you like Essex Green, Apples in Stereo, Yo La Tengo, Delgados, Eels, REM and that ilk you're bound to swoon. I did and I haven't left the floor since.
