Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
After three years of tossing and turning in anticipation of a new Enrique Iglesias disc, fans of the Latin superstar may find themselves losing still more sleep over early reviews that take Insomniac to task for straying too far from the sound that launched him to the loverman stratosphere. No need, though. Despite the presence of Lil' Wayne on the ultra-steamy, street-edged "Push" and some unapologetically catchy pop tunes any male singer, ethnicity aside, could have fun with ("Do You Know," for example, and "Tired of Being Sorry," a Ringside re-tread), white-hot machismo and Latin charm permeate Insomniac reliably. "Little Girl" sends out liquid-eyed outpourings of love to the ladies, "Don't You Forget About Me" delivers a sweet lament over a melting guitar line, and three late Spanish-language tracks--though they're just translations of English versions that preceded them--manage to lift the whole thing into a romantic shangri-la. If it's a peppier shangri-la than normal, chalk it up to No-Doz; Iglesias admits in the liner notes that he, himself, is the insomniac the disc was named for. --Tammy La Gorce

Product Description
Enrique Iglesias has sold 40 million albums in a little over a decade, becoming one of the most successful artists in the history of popular music. He has spent the past three years crafting his latest album.

Entitled "Insomniac," a humorous nod to Enrique's sleepless nights and obsessive artistic persona, the record is clearly the most ambitious project of his phenomenal career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enrique changes, matures, June 12, 2007
I think at first listen I thought, huh, this is different. Not a typical Enrique album. I loved his album, 7. And I wondered why it sold so little in U.S.A. I think this new album is a change but a change in the right direction. I was not sure how much I liked this album until I noticed how much I've been singing part of Ring My Bells. I loved Do You Know the first time I heard it. Tired of Being Sorry is great, too. Somebody's Me is great, very touching. These songs grow on you once you give them a chance, read the lyrics, make you feel like it's late at night and your experiencing something very personal. Which is what I believed Enrique intended. Thank you Enrique for being so honest and personal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enrique Hip-Hop Star? (3.5 Stars), June 12, 2007
By Person "qazwsx34651" (across the street) - See all my reviews
Enrique Iglesias is really in a bad boat. Because, it seems like in this era, if you are trying to set off a Latin explosion and your name isn't Shakira, it's going to flop. Look at Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony (I didn't put those last two together on purpose), none of those people have had any recent hits. And if you look through charts, Enrique hasn't really had a big smash in a good long time. So, as expected here, he tries really, really hard to impress you, by going off on different genres and different styles. And, like anyone else going completely out of his or her comfort zone, it really fails. One forgettable thing is Enrique Iglesias's very sad attempts to appeal to the hip-hop group. Songs like "On Top of You" and "Push" (latter featuring Lil' Wayne) are dead-drop forgettable tries at another scene. But, aside from that, Insomniac provides a solid, poppy and fun listen, regardless that the disc might feel a little dated (it ain't summer 2002 anymore), and you may have one or two blander songs to deal with. Enrique Iglesias should stick to what he does best: ballads; and that shows in "Somebody's Me", the acoustic "Don't You Forget About Me", and radio-friendly "Little Girl", and dancehall vibes, like "Tired of Being Sorry", or the best of both worlds, "Wish I Was Your Lover". And the two pop-rock songs "Stay Here Tonight" and "Sweet Isabel" are above passable. And like any other Enrique album, we are treated with three Spanish songs, all of which are already on the album in English, these are "Do You Know (The Ping Pong Song)", "Somebody's Me", and "Tired of Being Sorry". Enrique should try sticking to his roots for his next album, but Insomniac is still a very solid, contained, and fun listen. 3.5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars a bit different, June 23, 2007
From his previous effort. But that's not a bad thing at all. Enrique reaches out and brings in one of my fav rappers Lil Wayne for a song. I never though he would do "Push" with Weezy's nice flow on the song and singing being on point. It makes for a better effort than i thought before i first heard the song. Being an obvious choice for favorite song
"Do You Know (The Ping Pong Song)" strange title people might think. But after hearing the song you'll understand why. It's different again from what i'd expect from Enrique. He still has his well done ballads on the cd as well for those that love that.

Also more uptempo songs on Insomniac as well..nice title for the cd. Dont really like the album artwork but that's just something i mention. Not something that really takes away from one of Enrique's more diverse CDs in a bit. Nice one, EI.
