Product Description

As a young lad I often watched 'Gunsmoke', a western serial. The main character, Matt Dillon, was my hero. He was a no nonsense marshal that upheld the law. Later in life, when I became a law enforcement officer myself, I often felt, as I walked down the streets of my home town, that I once did the same during times in 'the old west'. With these thoughts in mind I wrote 'Ronan', a story of a lawman in an old western town.

About the Author

I was born a sharecroppers son, a few miles outside Kennett, Missouri. I grew up on the farm and led a very sheltered life until I was drafted into the US Army in 1969. After serving my country as a medic, then a tank-crew member, clerk, intelligence specialist and military policeman, I went into law enforcement and spent twenty plus years as a patrolman, sergeant, detective, training officer and assistant chief of police. I held a license for six years as a private detective, served as a councilman and then was voted in as Village president. I'm married with six children and an increasing group of grandchildren. I now work in corporate security, having retired from the police department. I am the a! uthor of two books, Dreams In Blue: The Real Police and Rubal. Both can be found at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.

(REAL NAME)
This Amazon Short is a miniature gunslinger tale reeking (pleasantly) of the dust, chaps, spurs, and guns of the highest Western Lore. After reading it myself, I can liken it to what essential oils are to the herbs from which they're extracted into the purest form.

My husband, Tom, had read the story first; it was out on my work table, ready to take with us. After watching Tom's reading attitude, I was even more interested in it than I had been. And my interest was already high from my having recently read and reviewed all the other Amazon Shorts in Richard Neal Huffman's collection, then his novel, "DREAMS IN BLUE The Real Police."

Here's the opening which had snagged and staggered Tom's (and my) attention:

>> His arrival came with the swirl of dust devils', racing across the plain and into the town of Alton. Henry Atkins and his wife Sarah watched him from behind a dust covered window in their hardware store. Sam Frieberg, a cowhand with the Triple K, struggled hard to see as he stood behind them. <<

Tom had picked up the 5 pages (from the "View Now" venue's print mode) of RONAN when he was standing by the closet which is next to my laptop where I was quickly wrapping up a bit of work prior to collecting my supplies. Tom was packing his duffle bag for our 5 hour trip home for a few days. After reading the first few paragraphs, he sat at the edge of one of our old rocking chairs, which was piled with my photo collections waiting to be used with my Amazon Shorts.

Even though we were hurrying to get going, I couldn't help but be warmed by the pause in Tom's intent movements, due to the pleasant, childlike smile I noticed taking over his face, which remained as he read through RONAN in less than 10 minutes. The expression looked like what I remember from the young boy's facial expressions in the classic Western, Shane.

RONAN has clearly and endearingly captured the tangy whiffs and whims of the essence of Western Lore gunslinger stories.

With that prime acknowledgment holding time,
Linda Shelnutt
