2.0 out of 5 stars Not a woman of wonders, November 14, 2007
Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This figure of Wonder Woman is one of worst figures in my possession. She actually looks better without the cape, but then you realize that either she has a severe case of scoliosis or that one leg is really longer than the other.

She's very hard to balance - it's not like the package comes with a spinal support column - and is easier to balance with the cape - whose trailing edge acts like a third leg - than without.

The peg in the stand helps, but - get this - because she's so unbalanced - and tips over when you're not looking - my figure actually broke the peg - which is now stuck, irretreviably, inside her foot.

Articulation is poor. I don't know why they even bothered trying to articulate her head when her hair prevents movement. She can grasp the sword that she comes with - you can unsheath the sword - because her hands are interchangeable - just pop-out-and-pop-in the hand of your choice

Don't buy this, wait for the next Wonder Woman series based upon the Amazon Wars if you really want to have a Wonder Woman figurine - that might be better.

I bought this figure mainly because she had a cape, rope and the sword. I bought it at a comic book shop. The cape doesn't move freely, it's made of rubber. The sword is a little too thin. The rope is nearly fragile. You gotta handle that part carefully. And finally...her shape...you're better off with a different Wonder Woman and be satisfied with it. Unless you want to spend extra for the cape and sword, then by all means go ahead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Infinite Crisis Series 2: Wonder Woman, March 14, 2008
By Hound Dog (Boise, ID, USA) - See all my reviews
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
From the blockbuster 2005 DC Comics mini-series, "Infinite Crisis," comes this depiction of the legendary Amazon Princess, Wonder Woman. As you may know, DC Direct has released several Wonder Woman action figures in recent years, and this one, with its somewhat unique visual look, rates above average despite some regrettable flaws.

The criteria I am setting forth are as follows:

1. Does this Wonder Woman figure accurately resemble its promotional photos?

Yes and no. As most collectors know, promotional photos (particularly, ones made public months in advance of the figure's actual release) can be rather deceptive, as one terrific figure is promised but then, the released figure will pale in comparison to the photo. In this case, minus the face, I would say the promotional photo and the "Infinite Crisis" figure are pretty much close to identical.

Wonder Woman's face, as seen in the photo, gives the impression of a warrior with an angel's face. However, the figure's actual face really isn't as attractive as it should be. I just didn't see much resemblance in the facial features between the finished figure and the photo.

Still, I would give DC Direct a solid grade for making mostly good on its advertising for this figure.

Score: 8/10

2. Does the figure have much articulation (for display purposes)?

Honestly, I don't have any idea as to the number of articulation points this figure supposedly has. All I know is that it is barely functional in terms of basic movement. As a collector, my primary concern is that it can stand proportionally on its own using the enclosed display base w/o tipping over. I had only a few moments of difficulty positioning the figure on the base, but it stands pretty good now.

I will note, however, just like the new (and far superior) `Wonder Woman: Series 1' version of Wonder Woman, this figure's hips are angled in such a way that one leg seems clearly longer than the other. Since the 'Infinite Crisis' figure is noticeably shorter, the disparity in her uneven legs therefore becomes even more obvious.

As a result, your choice of display poses is quite limited.

Score: 6.5/10

3. Do the figure's accessories enhance the figure?

Yes. At least, you will get your money's worth. The accessories are: an obligatory magic golden lasso; a sheathed warrior's sword; an attached rubber blue cape w/ red & white trim; and two extra hands to grasp the sword and lasso.

The lasso hooks on to one hip easily enough, while the sword can be attached to the other (positioning her arm around the sword can be a bit of a problem). I'm not sure of the practical value of the extra hands, because there is always the risk of potentially damaging the figure if you are constantly switching out hands. However, the blue cloak stands out as the most unique and visually appealing feature of this Wonder Woman. Really, how often does one see her in a cape?

Score: 10/10

4. Is the figure an excellent investment (or as a recommended addition to an action figure collection)?

Yes, for a reasonable price (say, $12.99 and under). Since there are superior representations from DC Direct of Wonder Woman, I'm not confident of this figure's long-term value for collectors. However, since it features Wonder Woman in a cloak, I would recommend obtaining one if you are looking for action figures with some novelty flair to them.

As for the other figures in 'Infinite Crisis: Series 2,' I would say that Firestorm (dead on to its promotional photo) and both versions of Donna Troy (minus the face, they closely resemble their photos) are all solid, inexpensive bets to consider investing in. The 'battle-damaged' Batman and 'in-flight' Superman also closely match the photos, but are not necessarily memorable, since they are so many variations of these two characters already available.

Score: 8/10

5. What do I think, overall?

If compared fairly to the various other Wonder Woman figures produced by DC Direct in the last five years, I would rate this version is being at most the third best. The 'Justice: Series 3' and the 'Wonder Woman: Series 1' depictions of Wonder Woman are vastly superior (and I highly recommend them), but at least this figure is less expensive, easier to find, and has more accessories included.

Besides, as one could easily find far worse action figures on the market, you should consider investing in this Wonder Woman figure. It is a solid bargain.

My final score: 8.25/10
