The soundtrack from "A Mighty Heart" will appeal to those who love Indian movie music or world music in general. The strange structure of the soundtrack and the narrow genres somewhat limit the audience.

Pros
+ Good quality soundtrack recording
+ Nice number of tracks
+ Good for soundtrack collectors or seekers of Indian music

Cons
- Tracks are strangely grouped out of sequence with the film
- Limited genes are included (Indian Music and one Novelle Vague song)
- Score music is meant to be mood music instead of traditional songs
- Those searching for Novelle Vague can buy their entire album for less
- Those searching for Indian music can buy other compilations for less

This soundtrack is essentially 3 soundtracks in one. Tracks 1-7 are Indian movie music tracks that are playing in the background throughout the film. Track 8 is the beautiful Novelle Vague song which plays during the end credits, "Manner of Speaking." And tracks 9-16 are songs from the movie score created by Molly Nyman & Harry Escott.

"A Mighty Heart" is a very emotional and suspenseful movie that uses music to convey the feeling of being a foreigner in Pakistan. Therefore the songs from the score attempt to convey those feelings of uneasiness. They are all excellent compositions, but because of their purpose, none of them stands out as a "song" all on it's own. They are all background music to some really uncomfortable and dramatic situations.

Overall, I do believe the soundtrack is nice. Most people are either looking for Indian Music here or Novelle Vague's song, either of which can be provided in other less expensive discs with more good songs.

If you love to collect movie soundtracks, or simply love world music and want to add Indian music to your collection, this is probably right up your alley. Otherwise, you may want to expand your search.
