5.0 out of 5 stars KAPUT! in less than a year. 1-Star, 23 June, 2008., October 20, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
UPDATE: 23 June, 2008: This coffee maker WAS great! Now, less than a year later, it switches from Brew mode to Keep Warm ("Ready") mode prematurely before coffee is half brewed. It now delivers "coffee-stained" water that is not too warm. I think the thermostat has gone south because "Ready" light comes on rather quickly now and brewing stops abruptly. Good while it lasted; wasted money in retrospect.

This was purchased for a once-a-week function and it has not disappointed. Its capacity is 55 5oz. cups of coffee. It is used here to percolate 50 cups once-a-week, and it does so in less than 30 minutes, then turns on the "Ready" light and switches to keep-warm automatically. Because it is stainless steel inside & out it cleans up quickly. After use there is a small, rectangular discoloration inside, at the bottom -- I expect it is immediately above the heating element. NO Matter! A touch of "Bar Keepers Friend" (available through Amazon) on a damp cloth restores the blazingly shiny stainless steel instantly! Included with the urn is a special brush to clean both the percolator stem and the glass coffee gauge, each in an instant. (BTW, to dry the inside of the glass coffee gauge I use a long, thin skewer to gently push a Q-Tip from one end to the other. I like that this urn is fast & easy to use. I REALLY like that clean-up of the stainless steel is a whiz. Using this urn is a wonderful improvement over multiple carafes of coffe from a typical kitchen coffee maker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile and Solid!, December 27, 2007
We don't drink coffee at all. Tea only. We love organic green tea. So tedious to make tea a few times a day. Took a chance on this urn and hoped that it would function as a tea maker. Success! Our tea is richer, darker and even tastes better! And we now have 55 cups of it with each effort instead of 8-10. This machine is surprisingly attractive for such a utilitarian item. It works very quickly and quietly and is super easy to clean. It's typical Waring-rock solid and well-made. I can't find another urn of this brand reputation and quality to compare it with. 10 stars-> don't hesitate to purchase this Waring!

1.0 out of 5 stars No coffee just hot water, September 16, 2008
By aj48 (Montana) - See all my reviews
I know I was not being practical but after recieving this I did not try it. I have one function a year and use about 4 of these types of coffee makers. I used this as a secondary coffee maker, good thing as when I went to get the coffee maker and make the switch for the other one that was all used up, there was nothing but hot water, it never brewed. It was 6 months from when I bought it. I will use it for hot water next year for making tea and hot chocolate. I would think twice about a refurbished item again and most certainly will always try them out immediatly.

It was so cheap and bought as a back up pot for big parties. I like it better than our expensive Farberware.
