Editorial Reviews

Product Description
2007 album from the undisputed kings of Florida Death Metal. Like a forgotten corpse in the basement, Obituary are back to haunt, taunt and fully pollute your senses. Fermenting like waste in the hot Florida sun, Obituary return from hiatus with the voracity of a starven wretch. The forfeiture of time brings blessings of brutality, and assurance that the Dead shall indeed rise again. Such aural abrasion can only be heard on an Obituary album or the live circumcision of a thirty-year-old man, the choice is yours...Xecutioners Return promises the Death Metal faithful and the hordes of newly be-witched Extreme Metal youths something to die for...again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Return of '89, October 4, 2007
Remember when cd's were new and you could'nt wait to go through your piles of Earache, Roadrunner,Nuclear Blast and Century Media discs not knowing they would go on to become classics, The first time you heard the Florida bands, and Celtic Frost or Napalm Death. Well put this in your player and let Obituary bring you back to those days of the new underground.Time has stood still for these cavemen. This will wet your appetite for Death again. The fuzzed out crunch and the belching demon vocals, from frenzy to groove this stuff has real emotion to it, Welcome back indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars a return to form from the grave, September 29, 2007

(REAL NAME)
Fans of Cause of Death era Obit should love this album. I thought that the last couple of albums were okay but this one has the awesome combo of Celtic Frost inspired riffs coupled with a doomy deathy sludge that only Obituary can reproduce. I guess Alan is not on this cd but you would never know. Old school fans will be proud.

1.0 out of 5 stars Obituary should have stayed dead., November 1, 2008
This review is from: Xecutioner's Return (MP3 Download)
First off, Obituary was one of my favirote death metal bands when I first started getting into metal in my teens. Death, Obituary, and Carcass were all the best back then. Cause of Death was, and still is, the pinnacle of their career and pretty much all of the mid-paced junk that followed isn't even worth mentioning.

Having said all of that, this album is stuck in time. Reforming and creating a new album after 10 years or more usually entails some pretty drastic changes. Peopel mature, musician's grow, and tastes change. Apparently, none of this is true for Obituary. Everyone here seems to want to love this cd because it sounds like they did in '89(which is totally wrong anyways, this stuff doesn't even come close to Cause of Death). Making muddy distortion, adding way too much reverb to a drumkit, or using mundane drumbeats and palm-muted child-like guitar riffs in 2008 doesn't cut it. Many things are timeless, especially in music and there are some bands I would love to do what Obituary has done by recreating their best sound, but this cd is such total mediocrity at its worst. This band is simply an embarassment to bands like Death or Carcass who actually DID evolve.

I'm sorry, but if you want to live in the past and prefer your music to sound like something a garage band full of pre-teens recorded on their Tascam 4-track, then get this cd. If your into anything sicne 1995 that has pushed metal beyond the bounds of midnight radio such as Death, Opeth, or Dark Tranquillity, then by god stay away!
