Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The old saying that the more things change, the more things stay the same seems almost custom-built for the seventh season of the popular sitcom That '70s Show. Not only did the 2004-2005 season mark the departure of its two biggest stars--Topher Grace and Ashton Kutcher, who left to embark on their movie careers--but Hyde (Danny Masterson, the show's perennial MVP) meets his biological father (WKRP in Cincinnati's Tim Reid) and sister (Megalyn Echikunwoke); Red (Kurtwood Smith) ends his financial worries by opening a muffler shop; and Fez (Wilmer Valderamma) moves in with Kelso (Kutcher) to provide a "safe" home for his baby. Old faces make return engagements as well, including Midge Pinciotti (Tanya Roberts), Kelso's brother Casey (Luke Wilson), who coaches Eric through a remedial gym course, and Leo (Tommy Chong), who offers to help Kelso with his daughter. There's also a new member of the gang (Bret Harrison of Reaper), a new hair color for Donna (blond, though it's not reflected on the set's cover art), and plenty of fun guest stars (Lindsay Lohan as a potential love interest for Fez, Eliza Dushku as a scheming intern at Hyde's father's radio station, and Brooke Shields, The Office's Jenna Fischer, and Bob Newhart Show vet Jack Riley). And if the show's loose and bawdy charm seems to have dimmed a bit in these episodes, the comfortable interplay between the cast members still feels the banter of real friends and family, which remains the key to the show's long-running appeal. The four-disc Season 7 set includes light-hearted commentary by director David Trainor, who waxes effusively about his cast on three episodes (season opener "Time Is On My Side," "Angie," and season finale "Till the Next Goodbye"). Behind the Polyester is a short chat with the show's executive producers on developing the seventh season, and there's a capsule review of the season's shenanigans, as well as promos for all of its episodes. Finally, the underpraised Don Stark (perennially clueless Bob Pinciotti) reminiscences about his favorite moments from the show, especially his garish outfits and headgear. -- Paul Gaita

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS EVER!!, August 9, 2007
By D.N.W.JR (Illinois) - See all my reviews
That 70s Show is quite possibly one of the greatest sitcoms fox ever produced. Season 7 is just another hilarious ventures into the 70s. Donna dyes her hai blonde and looks finer than ever and she and Eric are past the whole lets get married phase and the gang is back to their old antics and new ones. This probably should have been the last season, but the show was still very strong with plenty of laughs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Season 7 Episodes:, August 18, 2007
Having watched this season again recently, I'd give it a 4. There are definitely some great moments in this season, even if this season is a little different because there's so much change.

1. Time Is On My Side - Eric and Donna (now a blonde) decide to stay together after the wedding fiasco.
2. Let's Spend the Night Together - Hyde meets his biological father, who turns out to be black. Kelso becomes a dad.
3. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - Eric vandalizes a muffler shop, which Red later buys.
4. Beast of Burden - Eric is upset when Red doesn't ask him to work at his shop, "Forman & Son".
5. It's Only Rock and Roll - Hyde starts working at his father's record company. Kitty starts doing Tai Chi.
6. Rip This Joint - Eric goes to jail after pranking a neighbor.
7. Mother's Little Helper - Kelso's date asks Fez to go out with her.
8. Angie - Hyde meets his sister Angie, who tries to get him fired.
9. You Can't Always Get What You Want - Eric wants to go to a Styx concert on Thanksgiving.
10. Surprise, Surprise - Hyde finds out his sister is in a relationship with Kelso.
11. Winter - Kitty is left with no toys for the Christmas Toy Drive after Kelso gives them to his friends.
12. Don't Lie To Me - Concerned about her future with Hyde, Jackie pretends to be engaged to Fez.
13. Can't You Hear Me Knocking - Kelso accidentally threatens the president. Red goes ice fishing with Kitty.
14. Street Fighting Man - The gang and Red go to a Green Bay Packers game.
15. It's All Over Now - An intern at Donna's radio station gets her fired.
16. On With The Show - Jackie prepares to host her own public television show. Eric meets an older person whose life makes him think about his own future.
17. Down The Road Apiece - Eric leaves Point Place to make a documentary film about life on the road.
18. Oh, Baby (We Got a Good Thing Goin') - Kelso has trouble watching his baby daughter, Betsy. Hyde, Jackie, Red and Kitty go to a car show.
19. Who's Been Sleeping Here? - Kelso wants Hyde and Jackie to be Betsy's godparents, which doesn't sit well with Donna and Eric. Fez starts sleeping in the record store.
20. Gimme Shelter - Eric considers job options while Kelso and Fez look for an apartment.
21. 2120 So. Michigan Ave - Eric receives an "incomplete" in gym class and must re-take it over the summer with Casey Kelso.
22. 2000 Light Years From Home - Kelso wants to break up with Angie. Eric needs to find money for his college tuition.
23. Take It Or Leave It - Jackie is offered a job in Chicago. Donna tries to prevent Eric from going to Africa.
24. Short And Curlies - Jackie gives Hyde an ultimatum before leaving for Chicago. Donna has trouble finding a parting gift for Eric.
25. Til the Next Goodbye - Kelso takes Jackie to Chicago and Hyde decides to follow them. Eric says his final goodbyes to his family and friends.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as it used to be, September 3, 2007
I still enjoy watching this show and will certainly buy this set for my collection, but I should say that this season is by far not the best. For anyone who is new to the show: buy either season 1,2 or 3. Those episodes were hilarious!
After having been on the air for so many years, one just can't expect That '70s Show to still have fresh ideas all the time.
The plotlines really are less interesting and significant this time around. All of the characters are grown up now and they lack the on-screen chemistry they used to have.
However- It is still worth purchasing, for the fans, because it's the last season with the entire cast still intact before Eric and Kelso leave in Season 8.
