Putting an end to the so-called "Seinfeld curse," Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars in her own hilarious 2006 television sit-com as a divorced single mother struggling to raise a child while fighting her own insecurities. The series opens with Christine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) having recently enrolled her young son Ritchie (Trevor Gagnon) in an exclusive private school and feeling uncomfortably aware that she doesn't fit in with the other moms. Christine's ex-husband Richard (Clark Gregg) doesn't make things any easier when he shows up with his new girlfriend, also named Christine (Emily Rutherfurd), whom Christine doesn't even know exists, and things get even worse when the new girlfriend is quickly dubbed "New Christine" leaving Christine with the distasteful moniker "Old Christine." Even Ritchie senses that things are different at his new school on the first day, blurting out "where are the black kids?" in front of his horrified mother. Thus begin 13 episodes of pure comic fun in which basically good, likeable, yet invariably flawed characters seem destined to blurt out those socially unacceptable thoughts that often run through a person's head as they struggle to fit in and build meaningful relationships with each other. Whether Old Christine is trying to rid the world of prejudice, satisfy her own sexual needs, dating a man who wants more commitment than she can offer, trying to live up to the impossible standards of the meanie moms at school, maintain a friendship with her ex-husband, or just do the best job that she can raising her son, she can always be counted upon to do or say the absolute wrong thing and get herself into one uncomfortable situation after another. What makes it all so side-splittingly funny, besides the amazing comic delivery of each and every actor, is the great writing that ensures viewers can relate on a fundamental level to Christine's every predicament. Special features include unaired scenes, a blooper reel, and a 17-minute "The Real Christine" featurette with interview footage of all the major characters as well as show creator Kari Lizer, writer Katie Palmer, director Andy Ackerman, and co-executive producer Adam Barr. --Tami Horiuchi

Product Description

Now, there's a kick in the self-confidence: Single working mom Christine Campbell has just learned that her ex is dating a much-younger woman with the same first name. To avoid any confusion, everyone calls one woman New Christine and the other Old Christine. You can guess which is which. Julia Louis-Dreyfus' hilarious and insightful performance in the title role won fans and earned her the 2006 Emmy as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Christine struggles to hold it together as she adjusts to her new nickname, confronts the meanie moms at her son's private school, jumps back in the dating pool with a post-bikini bodÄand gets laughs every misstep of the way. You go, -old" girl!

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific sitcom finally coming to DVD!, October 13, 2007
By Patrick Gilchriest (Syracuse, NY) - See all my reviews
I was so excited to find out that the first season of "The New Adventures of Old Christine" is coming to DVD! This show has a terrific cast with terrific writing that make it a very enjoyable show to sit down and watch. I think what is so endearing about this show, especially the main character Christine, played brilliantly by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is that she tries so hard to be a normal, working mother. She is sending her son to a fancy private school while having to deal with the hilarious "Meanie Moms," who are rich snobs who look down on her for being a divorced, working woman, her ex-husband coming around with his new girlfriend, a young, sweet lady who also happens to be named Christine, and the fact that she herself does not have much in the way of what you'd call a love life. But instead of taking the usual approach of a lot of sitcoms where the characters have problems but then they are resolved within thirty minutes, we see Christine's failures. She tries so hard, and yet she manages to embarass herself, screw up, and/or put her foot in her mouth. That is what makes her endearing...she has very good intentions, but she can't always succeed, and so that makes it easy to relate to her. That is why I find the cover art so funny and so in character for her...only she could hop into her car and begin driving away without a care in the world only to have every single thing she needed to bring with her still on the roof of the car. So pick this one up, you won't be disappointed...it's a fresh sitcom with unique writing and I have no doubt that you'll not only enjoy this, but in some way, you just may be able to relate to it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The only sitcom I'd spend money on to buy!, January 15, 2008
In my opinion, this is one of the best sitcoms ever.

When I heard the first season of The New Adventures of Old Christine was going to be released on DVD, I wanted to jump and shout for joy. Finally! A show series that I find worthy enough to spend money on. It is the only sitcom that I could watch over and over - and laugh just as hard the second, third, or ninety-ninth time.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favourite comedies ;->, January 23, 2008
By Little Miss Cutey (Melbourne, Australia) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
I really love this show. It's so good and I can see why Julia won a Golden Globe for this. She's such a talented and funny actress and makes this show truly enjoyable. I also really love Wanda Sykes and she brings even more humour to the show and rounds out a great cast.
While everyone probably already knows the plot of the series, here are the episodes within this DVD set.
1 PILOT - She's sweet, she's adorable, she's young, I hate her. Christine meets new Christine.
2 SUPERTRAMP - Christine looks for a fling ... and lands the man mocked as the Sad Dad at Ritchie's school.
3 OPEN WATER - Is love blind? The unexpected occurs when Barb and Pete set Christine up on a blind date.
4 ONE TOE OVER THE LINE, SWEET JESUS - Richard has no problem with Christine and Burton's romance. Nope, no problem at all.
5 I'LL SHOW YOU MINE - The men in her life. After two months of dating, Burton still hasn't met Ritchie.
6 THE OTHER F WORD - Christine takes it upon herself to diversify Ritchie's white white school.
7 LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO STAN - Solo and so low. After she breaks up with Burton, Christine discovers dining out alone is no treat.
8 TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL - Four hundred dollas a guest!? Christine rebels against extravagant children's birthday parties.
9 RITCHIE HAS TWO MOMMIES - ...But only one of them is nuts! Christine freaks when New Christine shows up at Parents' Night.
10 NO FAULT DIVORCE - Why did Christine and Richard get divorced? Maybe for a reason Christine never knew about.
11 EXILE ON LAME STREET - Afraid of what Ritchie will be exposed to at a Rolling Stones concert, Christine tries to crash the event.
12 SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE PORTUGUESE - Working women of the world, unite. Christine is thrilled to meet another working mom at Ritchie's school.
13 A FAIR TO REMEMBER - Christine's hopes of rekindling her romance with Burton are dashed when she learns he has a new girlfriend ... named Christine.

You really have to check out this show. You'll really love it. And fans who already love it will love the special features here like Unaired scenes and gag reels to name a few.
I highly recommend this dvd to all fans of the show and to people who haven't already seen this, because you'll watch it and fall in love with it too.
